Judith Katrijntje "Trijntje" Oosterhuis (Dutch pronunciation: "(jyd't ka) trrys) Oosterhuis (born 5 February 1973) is a Dutch singer and songwriter. Tjeerd Oosterhuis, her brother, formed Total Touch in 1990, before she began as a solo artist. With the song "Walk Along," she represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, scoring 14 points and winning the Barbara Dex Award of the Year.

Early life

Judith Katrijntje Oosterhuis was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on February 5th, 1973. She is the granddaughter of the Amsterdam Promenade Orchestra's theologian and former Catholic priest Huub Oosterhuis and violinist Jozefien Melief. Tjeerd Oosterhuis, her older brother (born 1971), is a journalist.

Solo career

Total Touch decided to separate in 2001, with Tjeerd preferring to concentrate on writing and songwriting and Trijntje wishing to begin her solo career.

Trijntje Oosterhuis' debut solo album, mainly ballads, and depicted her as a diva. Trijntje has a passion for jazz rather than pop ballads, and in 2004, she signed a record deal with Blue Note and released the live album Strange Fruit, which features Billie Holiday and George Gershwin covers. Trijntje's album received critical acclaim, and the band found notoriety outside of her homeland.

Trijntje gave birth to her son Jonas in September 2004. Marijn Benjamin van den Eeden, her second son, was born on July 31, 2006. Burt Bacharach, who plays the piano on two tracks, recorded The Look of Love (Burt Bacharach Songbook), her second jazz album, The Look of Love (Burt Bacharach Songbook), and was released on November 20th, 2006. On the day of release, the new album was designated Platinum for having sold more than 70,000 copies. Trijntje appeared on stages with the Metropole Orchestra in December 2006, performing Burt Bacharach and Christmas songs.

Bacharach performed piano on three tracks in 2007, releasing Who'll Speak for Love, her second volume of her Burt Bacharach's collaboration with Burt Bacharach. Ken Je Mij (Do You Know Me) was released as a CD and DVD of an acoustic concert performance with guitarist Leonardo Amuedo in 2008.

She was one of the special guests at the Symphonica in Rosso concert in Arnhem in September 2008, starring Lionel Richie. Richie performed the duet "Face in the Crowd" with her Richie, which was included in Richie's album Just Go.

"What the World Needs Now" was the theme for Brazilian soap opera Viver a Vida produced by Rede Globo in 2009 and 2010.

In early 2011, Oosterhuis released the album in New York on Sundays. The CD was given away for free to lucky readers of the Dutch newspaper AD's Saturday 15 January 2011 issue.

Anouk, a Dutch singer, made two videos of her and Trijntje living in a studio in January 2012, which are also available on Twitter and Facebook. Anouk and Trijntje had been reported as a duet for Trijntje's forthcoming album, according to preliminary reports. Anouk was revealed soon enough that it was not writing songs for the album and producing it. On April 13, 2012, the new album, Wrecks We Adore, was officially released. Oosterhuis replaced Angela Groothuizen as a mentor on the third season of The Voice of Holland with Nick & Simon, Roel van Velzen, and Marco Borsato. Leona Philippo, her last entrant, made it to the final and triumphed. In 2014, Oosterhuis stayed on the show until the end of the fifth season.

Trijntje Oosterhuis performed for the Netherlands in 2015 with the album "Walk Along." However, Oosterhuis was unable to qualify for the final.

Ma.l Joni, a baby girl from India, gave birth to her third child on December 8, 2015.

Oosterhuis was a member of Ladies of Soul, a supergroup led by Candy Dulfer, Glennis Grace, and sisters-in-law Berget Lewis and Edsilia Rombley between 2012 and 2017. Since February 2014, they have held annual arena-shows as well as cover-versions. Oosterhuis resigned from Ladies of Soul in June 2017 to concentrate on her solo career, although she did return as a special guest during the 5th anniversary-shows on March 23 and 24, 2018.

Oosterhuis' new Dutch-language covers album Leven van der liefde (Life of passion) was released in September 2017.

Oosterhuis was a participant of the Dutch television show "Beste Zangers" in September 2018.

Oosterhuis premiered the first single from her forthcoming album Dit is Voor Mij (This is for me); the same month she performed a sold out Ziggo Dome in a sold out Ziggo Dome. Oosterhuis appeared at the North Sea Jazz Festival on a summer tour of festivals and special performances. These dates were followed by a club tour.

In 2020, Oosterhuis was supposed to appear as Mary in that year's Iteration of The Passion, but it was postponed due to the coronavirus. She appeared as a panel judge on the SBS6 talent competition We Want More in the summer of 2020; the selection rounds were taped beforehand.
