Glennis Grace Career

Life and career

Batta was born in Amsterdam to a Dutch mother and a father from Curaçao. She was discovered in 1994, at the age of 15, after winning the Dutch TV talent show Soundmixshow, where she performed "One Moment in Time" by Whitney Houston.

Glennis Grace accepted the invitation to participate in the Nationaal Songfestival, the national selection in the Netherlands for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. Glennis Grace performed "My Impossible Dream" and reached the final with this song. She then represented the Netherlands in Kyiv, but did not qualify for the final.

With a rendition of "Afscheid," a 1998 hit song of the Dutch band Volumia! in which she appeared in the Dutch television show Beste Zangers, she reached the top of the Dutch singles chart in April 2011.

Glennis Grace founded the Ladies of Soul in 2012, along with fellow Dutch artists Candy Dulfer, Berget Lewis, Edsilia Rombley, and Trijntje Oosterhuis. In 2017, Oosterhuis left the company.

Glennis Grace was due to appear at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands, as an interval act with DJ and music producer Afrojack. The performance was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Grace performed "Titanium," which was co-produced by Afrojack, in the final run of the rescheduled Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

In 2018, Glennis Grace appeared on America's Got Talent for the 13th time. During the audition rounds (episode: June 27, 2018) Glennis Grace performed Whitney Houston's "Run to You" during the auditions. Glennis Grace received 'Yes' votes from all four judges and advanced to the next round, where she performed "Nothing Compares 2 U" from Prince. She was lauded by the judges and was selected for a spot in the quarterfinals. Glennis Grace sang "Never Enough" from the film "The Greatest Showman" in the quarterfinals. She performed "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush in the second semifinal. This resulted in a spot in the finals with nine other finalists. She sang "Run" from Snow Patrol in the final and received a standing ovation from the judges and the audience. Glennis Grace performed the song "Meant To Be" with American singer Bebe Rexha on a separate final broadcast the next day. The audience was ecstatic, and some people said that Glennis Grace sang the songs better than Rexha. Glennis Grace did not make it to the top five finalists.

Glennis Grace will take over Jan Smit as a coach on the twelfth series of The Voice of Holland in July 2021. The show was suspended indefinitely after two audition episodes were broadcast, owing to sexual harassment allegations made by (former) participants, who allegedly went on for years, but also implied lax behavior of certain (ex)coaches.

Glennis Grace and two others were arrested in Amsterdam on February 12, 2022, on suspicion of attacking supermarket workers. She was held in detention for three days before being released on February 15, 2022. On February 22, 2022, she was first arrested. Two new criminals were arrested on the same day.
