Duncan Laurence Career

Career

Laurence, a boy who was born in Spijkenisse, grew up in Hellevoetsluis. As an adolescent, he began writing his own songs as an antidote to being mocked. He began his musical career at the Rock Academy in Tilburg, where he performed in a number of school bands, including his own, the Slick and Suited. The band, which was formed in 2013, went on to appear at Eurosonic Noorderslag. He revealed that he had oxygen deprivation at birth and had a motor disorder that affected his right hand.

Laurence played in the fifth season of The Voice of Holland, selecting Ilse DeLange as his coach. He progressed to the Cross Battles/Semi Finals before being disqualified. He left The Slick in March 2016. Laurence graduated from the Rock Academy in 2017. For their 2018 release The Chance of Love, he and Jihad Rahmouni composed the music to K-pop's "Closer"; A Symbol of Love.

Laurence was nominated internally to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, which was held in Tel Aviv, Israel, in January 2019. He was nominated by DeLange, with whom he remained in contact after The Voice. In March 2019, his album, "Arcade," was released. Laurence was eventually crowned the greatest favorite to win after being given 498 points. He is the fifth Dutch entrant to win the competition, and the first since Teach-In won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975 with the song "Ding-a-dong." Laurence is the longest reigning Eurovision champion, having held the title for two years in a row since the competition was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laurence embarked on a concert tour around the Netherlands and Europe after winning Eurovision. He appeared at the Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf on the first Dutch Eurovision winner to attend the festival on June 10, 2019. He upgraded the Swedish duo First Aid Kit, which had to be returned due to health issues. "Love Don't Hate It" was Laurence's second single on October 23, 2019. He had also announced that he had signed a recording deal with Capitol Records. In 2020, the artists' entrance at Rotterdam Ahoy was renamed "Door Duncan" in his honor. Laurence's first extended play (EP), Worlds on Fire), contained the singles "Arcade," "Love Don't Hate It," and "Someone Else," as well as two new tracks on May 13. Small Town Boy, his first studio album, will be released on November 13, 2020. It was certified platinum in the Netherlands three days after its debut. "Feel Something" was preceded on the album's debut, a collaboration with fellow Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren.

"Arcade" went viral on social media site TikTok in the second half of last year, resulting in the song's new chart success and increased in streams on various platforms. "Arcade" became Spotify's most watched Eurovision song in January 2021, beating a record set by Eurovision 2019 runner-up Mahmood and his entry "Soldi" in a row. "Arcade" made the UK Singles Chart's top 40 on February 20, 2021, and two weeks later it reached its highest position, number 29. Laurence appeared on Today in March on Today, and later performed the song's duet version alongside Fletcher on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Following these promotional appearances, the album debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, becoming the first Eurovision hit song in 25 years and the first Eurovision winning song in 45 years to do so; it eventually ranked at number 30.

Laurence launched "Feel Something" in Rotterdam, the first semi-finalist of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. He was given a Global Platinum Award for one billion streams of "Arcade" in the same case. However, he later tested positive for COVID-19, which kept him from participating in the grand finals live. Instead, a pre-recorded video of his appearance, which included "Arcade" and a new single from Small Town Boy's deluxe edition, "Stars," was broadcast instead during the final.

The soundtrack album for the second season of the Hulu series Love, Victor was released on June 2021. Laurence's "Heaven Is a Hand to Hold" was one of the songs on the soundtrack, a play by Leland, Jordan Garfield, and Peter Thomas. Laurence also spoke about American singer Wrabel's single "Back to Back," which was released on July 30th off of the latter's debut album These Words Are All for You. The single "Wishes Come True" was followed by "Wishes Come True" on December 26, 2010. Laurence was a coach on The Voice Kids Belgium's sixth season, where a teammate, Karista, won.

Laurence's "Electric Life" was the lead single on his forthcoming second studio album on August 3, 2022. "Would Do It Again" - Rosa Linn's collaborative single "Would Do It Again" was released on October 21.

There's nothing Eurovision loves more than eccentric performances. This year marks the 67th time that the international competition has graced our screens. Following the loss of last year's champions Ukraine, who were unable to host, the final will see 26 countries battling - or croon - for the top spot in Liverpool. Croatia is already known as the most eccentric group in the bookies, while Sweden is the bookies' favorite. Here's everything else you'll need to hear about the case.
