Tim Bendzko (born 9 April 1985) is a German singer-songwriter.
He received national recognition for his song "Nur noch kurz die Welt retten" and was crowned champion of the Bundesvision Song Contest.
Career
Bendzko grew up in Berlin's Köpenick district. He attended a sports gymnasium and played with the FC Union Berlin club football up to the "B" age group, around 16. He began learning guitar lessons, which he started taking when he was 11 or 12 years old. He wrote his first songs at the age of 16. He studied Protestant Theology and Non-Christian faiths at the Free University of Berlin after taking his Abitur. He ceased his education after five semesters without obtaining a degree. He later worked as an auctioneer in the car trade for a short time.
He registered for the Söhne Mannheim hunt in 2009. He appeared at the Berlin Waldbühne in the summer of 2009, one of Europe's biggest concert venues, as a winner of the talent competition. He devoted himself entirely to his music. He received a recording deal with Sony Music and appeared on Silly's opening act in 2010.
He released Wenn Worte mein Sprache, 2011 ("If words were my words"), from which the single Nur noch kurz die Welt retten ("Just quickly save the world") was released on May 27. The album debuted at number four on the German charts and at number two on the single. Tim Bendzko, Mo Brandis, and Simon Triebel wrote the single and was awarded 3 Gold in Germany for more than 450,000 copies. It was also granted Platinum status in Switzerland and Gold in Austria. Hagen Decker of Los Angeles produced the music video. The album, which has sold more than 500,000 copies in Germany alone, was awarded Gold in Germany, Platinum in Switzerland, and Gold in Austria.
Bendzko appeared on Elton John's tour of Germany as the opening act for Joe Cocker's Hard Knocks tour, as well as the support act for Joe Cocker during his Hard Knocks tour. On September 29, 2011, he returned to Berlin for the Bundesvision Song Contest 2011 with the title track of his album, Wenn Worte mein Sprache wären, and the competition was a hit. He received the newcomer Bambi award on November 10, 2011.
Tim was one of three mentors on the first season of the German version of The Voice Kids, which premiered in 2013.
