Terry Chimes Career

Career

Terry Chimes met Mick Jones and Paul Simonson on the local music scene, and they'll team up with Joe Strummer and Keith Levene to form The Clash.

Both Chimes and Levene have left, but Chimes' self-titled debut album, The Clash, was released. On the album sleeve, he was listed as Tory Crimes. Chimes left the band briefly after recording the album and was replaced by Topper Headon.

Headon was kicked out of the band for his heroin use in 1982, but Chimes was asked to return. He appeared on The Casbah Club tours in both the United States and the United Kingdom, a short tour promoting The Who, and the subsequent Combat Rock tour in the United States. He appeared in the single's music video, "Rock the Casbah." For the third time and final time since the 1982 Jamaican World Music Festival, he returned for the third time.

Chimes spent time in bands including Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers briefly in 1977 and 1984, with former Hanoi Rocks members Andy McCoy and Nasty Suicide and ex Sham 69/Wanderers/The Lords of the New Church Dave Tregunna from 1989 to 1988 on their Eternal Idol Tour in 1987–88. Billy Idol also played drums for a brief period of time.

He was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 as a member of The Clash. He gave an acceptance address praising Topper Headon's work at the induction ceremony.

At an Adult Appreciation ceremony in 2008, he was nominated as a Scout Ambassador for the Scout Association Region for Greater London.

He currently plays drums for The Crunch and the Anita Chellemah Band.
