Shane Told Life

Silverstein () is a Canadian rock band formed in Burlington, Ontario, that formed in 2000.

Shel Silverstein, the band's most popular children's author, was a member of the Wel Silverstein family, who the band admired and read the children's stories.

They have released ten studio albums, four EPs, a compilation album, and a live DVD/CD.

They had been unchanged for ten years since December 2001, consisting of lead vocalist Shane Told, lead guitarist Neil Boshart, bassist Billy Hamilton, bassist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Koehler.

Neil Boshart had been fired and was to be replaced by Paul Marc Rousseau, who also assisted Billy Hamilton on backing vocals.

The band's second studio album, Discovering the Waterfront, was nominated for a Juno Award and debuted at No. 5 on the charts. The Billboard 200 charts rank 34, with the following two albums charting in the same order.

Silverstein released more than 1,000,000 albums worldwide, as the band's long-time record label, Victory Records, was founded in 2010; and after a brief period with Hopeless Records, the band has been signed to Rise Records.

In July 2017, the band Dead Reflection, their 9th studio album, was released.

The early years and When Broken Is Easily Fixed (2000–2004)

Silverstein was born in February 2000. In August of that year, they self-released their first EP, Stellar Gaze, in August. Billy Hamilton, a local supporter who discovered the band's need for a bassist on the Internet message board "The 905 Board," which used to be for local musicians, has been through several lineup changes. He joined the band in December 2000 after Told helped him learn the songs' music. He officially debuted with Silverstein following a rehearsal on Boxing Day (26 December) in 2000. Richard McWalter, the original guitarist, left the band to Victoria, British Columbia, to study engineering next year. Neil Boshart, Shane Told's childhood friend, was then posted. When the Shadows Beam, the new lineup's second EP, came as part of their first tour in Eastern Canada. Hamilton performed with a complete lineup on October 2002 when he attempted to complete his secondary education one semester early.

When Broken Is Easily Fixed, the band took the band into the studio in January to record their first full-length debut album. It was shot at Unity Gain and Mount Fairview studios with producer Justin Koop and was released on May 20, 2003 by Victory Records. Six songs were re-recorded from Silverstein's previous albums; Stellar Gaze and When The Shadows Beam were published in Summer. When Broken Is Easily Fixed first sold over 200,000 copies, far beyond the band's aspirations.

Discovering the Waterfront, the band's second studio album, was released by Victory Records in August 2005. It was Cameron Webb's first album to be produced, and it represented the beginning of a long association between the band and the American producer. It also marked a change in sound from When Broken Is Easily Fixed, which featured faster-paced and more energetic songs, as well as the band's continued use of more punk rock elements in their music. The old's clean and unclean vocals had improved since their first attempt. Discovering The Waterfront opened the band to a larger audience, with the music video for the first single "Smile in Your Sleep" airplay on stations such as FUSE and IMF. In its first week, the album was sold 26,229 copies.

The band appeared on the Never Sleep Again Tour in 2005 with artists including Aiden, Hawthorne Heights, and Bayside, a tour on which Bayside's drummer John "Beatz" Holohan was killed in a road crash. The song, Here Today, Gone Tomorrow, was released on the band's new album, Arrivals and Departures, and it was described in detail about Holohan's death and his bandmates. They toured with fellow Canadians Simple Plan in Europe from January to February 2006. They then toured Canada with the Taste of Chaos Tour, as well as visiting Europe, Japan, and Australia. They appeared on the main stage at Earls Court & MEN Arena in the United Kingdom for the Give It A Name Festival.

The band appeared on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour, debuting on the main stage in support of Discovering the Waterfront and a compilation album, 18 Candles: The Early Years. The Early Years compiles the band's first two self-financed EPs as well as various alternate interpretations of songs from their first two studio albums, including a dance remix of "Smile In Your Sleep" and an acoustic interpretation of "My Heroine." In September 2006, discovering the Waterfront was re-released with an additional song, the band's "Rodeo Clown," a DVD with music videos, a making of featurette, and a live set from the Never Sleep Again Tour in Chicago.

Silverstein was nominated for a Juno Award in the "Best New Band" segment in 2006, but Bedouin Soundclash defeated him.

They headlined the Never Shave Again Tour in Fall 2006, along with Aiden, It Dies Today, and He Is Legend.

Arrivals And Departures, the band's third full length album, was released on July 3, 2007, and was rated by AP Magazine as one of the most awaited CDs of 2007. The CD was produced by Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World, Blink-182, Finch). In its first week, the album went out of print by 27,000 copies. Silverstein also contributed to the Punk Goes Acoustic 2 collection, which was released on May 8th, 2007.

The band appeared at a few shows in the spring and then joined Rise Against in an all-summer tour. In Fall 2007, they toured the United States from Autumn to Ashes and then on a month-long European tour with Blessthefall.

They began their first "Cross-Canada" headlining tour with Prosequet and The Devil Wears Prada, which sold out across the region, after tours of Australia and Japan in January 2008. In addition, they did a U.S. tour with A Day to Remember, Prosperity, and The Devil Wears Prada, in which Protest the Hero was taken off the tour and Pierce the Veil took over for them on a few show dates. The band called off the summer after heavy touring for their album, Arrivals and Departures, in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom,, and other European countries between late 2007 and early 2008, which included the band's 1000th show in Paris, France. Silverstein's Paul Koehler wrote a new album in a news post on their website.

The band toured the United States in October and November 2008, with Chiodos, Escape the Fate, Alesana, and A Skylit Drive, during which they performed the recently written "Broken Stars" as a demo on their Myspace page. In February, the band appeared on a South American tour and then one in Hawaii followed by a show in Australia.

The band revealed on December 14th, 2008, by a Myspace bulletin, that their fourth album would be out by March 2009. On the 29th of January 2009, the band's debut, A Shipwreck in the Sand, was announced as a result of a viral marketing campaign, while also announcing that it would be a concept album. Short clips of the songs "Vices," "Born Dead," and "American Dream" were made available on MySpace on March 17th, along with the demo of "Broken Stars," which the band had been performing during their final U.S. tour in favor of "Arrivals and Departures." (The Beatles) Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac Covert), Three Miles Down (Saves The Day cover), and Total Bummer (NOFX cover).

The band appeared at several shows on the continent of Europe and completed a tour in support of the Welsh band The Blackout, as well as We Are The Ocean, Hollywood Undead, and Urgency. The band completed a small-market tour in Ontario and the Midwestern United States, as well as a short stay on Warped Tour, Anchorage, Alaska, and a cross-Canada tour with A Day To Remember, Ten Second Epic, I Am Committing A Sin, and a tour with Prince Philip Ossoud. They performed Europe for Billy Talent from 16 November in Bielefeld, Germany, to 4 December 2009 in Winterthur, Switzerland. They appeared in Toronto from 18–21 March 2010, with each show containing an album in full. They also confirmed that they will be on the Toursick tour with A Day To Remember, August Burns Red, Enter Shikari, Veara, and Go Radio from March to May 2010.

Silverstein revealed on March 15, 2010 that they would film four exclusive Toronto shows, during which they would be performing their entire discography, on a live DVD.
