Shahril Ishak Life

Shahril Ishak (born 23 January 1984) is a Singaporean football player who currently plays for Home United in the S. League.

He is a natural centre midfielder who can also play as a striker or winger.

Shahril, the former captain of Singapore's national football team and winner of the AFF Suzuki Cup MVP, helped Singapore win four titles in the tournament's history.

In 2013, he won the inaugural AFF Player of the Year (Men) award.

Personal life

Shahril is the maker of inloveXtns, a clothing company that jointly owned with his wife Nur Hidayah, which was founded in late 2014. The company began as The Number Seventeen, a streetwear brand that refers to Shahril's jersey number and TNS for short. Shahril created all TNS clothing.

Club career

Shahril, together with Baihakki Khaizan, Hassan Sunny, and Khairul Amri, was enrolled in the inaugural batch of the National Football Academy in 2000.

Shahril had previously played for Young Lions and Home United in S.League. He joined the Young Lions in 2003 and made his international debut shortly after. Shahril Ishak left the Young Lions in 2007 to join Home United after four seasons.

Shahril made his Home United debut in the 2007 season. On Sunday, he played his last game for Home United, scoring two vital goals against title rivals Tampines Rovers FC. He then moved to Indonesia with five games remaining in the S.League season. He scored 17 goals in his last season in Home United, making him the third highest scorer in the 2010 S.League season. He also received the 2010 S.League Player of the Year award.

Shahril and his fellow Singapore national football team player, Baihakki Khaizan, joined Indonesian side Persib Bandung in a one-year deal in 2010.

Shahril signed Medan Chiefs, a Liga Primer Indonesia side, a one-year contract worth $400,000. He then went on to score 8 league goals in 32 Medan Chiefs games.

Shahril played for Singapore for the first time in December 2011 when he was renamed to Singapore with the newly formed club side LionsXII. He won the 2013 Malaysia Super League title in his second season as well as scoring 17 goals in 34 appearances, finishing as the club's top scorer in 2013.

Shahril signed a four-year deal with the Malaysian Super League after joining Malaysia's Johor Darul Takzim II F.C. On his first day with the club, he was given the number 17 shirt. In the 2014 Malaysia Premier League, he was appointed captain for his new club. He was converted back to a center midfielder/playmaker role and led his new team to a 5th place finish last season, with 7 goals and 8 assists. He was the head of Johor Darul Takzim II F.C. As the captain of Malaysia's 2015 Premier League, he led his team to a 5th position on the season, with 5 goals and 6 assists.

Shahril scored 23 goals in 75 appearances for JDT II between 2014 and 2016.

Sharil returned to Singapore to compete with Warriors FC in the 2017 S.League championship together with Baihakki Khaizan. In a 4-3 victory over the Garena Young Lions and notched his first brace for the club in a 2–2 draw with Home United FC, scoring both goals in the final 9 minutes of the game, extending the Warriors' undefeated run to six games. In the Warriors' tenth league game of the season, he scored a further two goals, winning by 2–0 over Geylang International, putting an end to his club's tense two months, where they only gained once and were kicked out of the Singapore Cup. Despite his advancing years, Shahril had a stellar season (11) and was active in all 24 league games, starting 23 of them.

Sharil returned to Home United for the 2018 S.League season, replacing last season's top scorer, Stipe Plazibat, who had left for Thailand, as well as Khairul Nizam who had departed in the opposite direction to Warriors FC.

In January 2021, Sharil joined Hougang United.

International career

Shahril Ishak, Singapore's most natural creative midfielder to emerge in recent years, dominated the Lions engine room from the start of the season in 2003 when he took his first international debut against Maldives at 19 years old.

Muhammad Ridhuan, defender Baihakki Khaizan, and keeper Hassan Sunny were all members of the "NFA Gang of Four," the quartet's predecessors who had played together since childhood and gained top international recognition in 2003.

Coach Radojko Avramovic has served in various positions around the midfield, but Shahril has argued for a central role in the second half of 2004.

He was instrumental in the 2005 Tiger Cup triumph as well as the ASEAN Football Championship in 2007. He was also a member of the 2005 SEA Games squad and the 2006 Asian Games.

He was a member of the Singapore Under-23 team that competed in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Korat, Thailand, winning a bronze medal.

At senior, U23, U18, and U16 levels, Capped for Singapore.

Shahril was proclaimed as the new captain of the national team in August 2010 and the Lions were competing in the AFF Suzuki Cup in December.

In a 2–2 draw against the Azerbaijan national football team, Shahrill Ishak converted a penalty into a goal on February 24.

Shahril has been inducted into the FIFA Century Club as a member.

He was instrumental in Singapore's 2012 AFF Championship win, scoring 4 goals in 7 appearances to help the Lions win their 4th title.

Shahril was selected to compete in the Sultan of Selangor's Cup, which will be held on May 6, 2017.
