Indra Sahdan Daud Career

Club career

Indra came to prominence when he captained Singapore in the 1995 Lion City Cup. His breakout success earned him the nickname "next Fandi Ahmad."

In the inaugural S.League, where he was used as a back-up player, he debuted as a 16-year-old with Police FC (later renamed Home United). Indra then opted to move to Geylang United in 1997, spending four seasons with the 1996 champions.

Indra has been with Home United since the 2001 season. Indra joined the Singapore Police Force as a police officer, in addition to his football commitments with Home United. Home United defeated one S.League title and three Singapore Cups, and he formed a strong partnership with Egmar Goncalves. Since winning the S.League Young Player of the Year award in 2000 and 2001, he was recognized for his potential. He demonstrated his knack for scoring against top teams such as Uruguay, Japan, Denmark, and Manchester United. He scored Team Singapore's only goal in their 1–8 loss at the National Stadium on July 24th during Manchester United's pre-season Far East tour in 2001.

He was the first local player to score 100 domestic goals in Home United's 4–0 victory over Balestier Khalsa on June 21, 2003. Despite rumors linking to Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town in August 2003, no one came to England. However, he enjoyed his time with Home United in winning a double-seague and Singapore Cup double that year. In December 2003, Sutee Suksomkit, a teammate, was sent to Chelsea's reserve team for a two-week training stint as part of a contract with club sponsor Emirates Airline.

In 2005, Indra refused a Malaysia Super League player Perak's offer of US$5,000 (S$8,520) per month, opting to keep his Home United contract til the 2008 season's end. With the latest contract, he became Singapore's highest-paid local player with an annual salary in excess of S$100,000. He has been with the Police Force for another five years.

He suffered the anterior cruciate ligament damage in his left knee when doing international service in May 2006, excluding him for the remainder of the season.

Indra underwent a trial with the American MLS team Real Salt Lake in Miami, Florida, from 14 to 24, February 2008. In four starts, he has scored two goals. Since being on pre-season tour to Rosario, Argentina, beginning on March 1st, the Home United striker was then invited to join Real Salt Lake for three exhibition matches. Dave Roberts, the club's general manager, who arranged the trial, was quoted as "very good" ahead of his transfer to Argentina Indra's friend, Dave Roberts, who aided in the trial. However, Indra sustained a knee injury in Argentina and was not offered a contract by coach Jason Kreis. Following Fandi Ahmad and V. Sundramoorthy, if the transfer went well, he would have been Singapore's only third footballer to play professionally outside of Asia.

In 2008, Indra was having trouble scoring for Home United with just 10 goals in the league all season. Indra's deal with Home United came to an end at the end of 2008, after the 2008 AFF Championship. He appeared in two V.League clubs and one First Division club. He turned down a career with Hoa Phat's Vietnam club, citing issues with the catering and food. He returned to Singapore but was left in limbo as Home United had drafted his replacement, and that if he wanted to join another S.League team, he would have to resign from the Singapore Police Force. He eventually left his police work and joined Sengkang Punggol for the 2009 season. When regular captain Aide Iskandar was promoted to caretaker coach, Indra was temporarily handed the armband. Sengkang Punggol's debut was a 2–2 draw against the Super Reds. He was suspended for his first game after elbowing an Albirex Niigata (S) player only ten minutes into the game. Albirex Niigata eventually won 2–1.

In 2010, Singapore Armed Forces signed Indra. In the club's 5–0 victory over Woodlands Wellington in March 2011, he scored a record 200 domestic goals.

Indra joined National Football League amateur side Keppel Monaco for the 2012 season after being released by Singapore Armed Forces at the end of 2011. Lee Lim-Saeng, the Home United head coach, was however, convinced by his pre-season results and "his intelligence on and off the ball" to sign him for a second stint with the Protectors in February 2012. He was deployed as a second striker and in midfield due to his advanced years and lack of speed. He retired at the end of the 2014 season.

Indra came out of retirement and joined Tampines Rovers on February 15, 2015. Indra scored his first goal for the stags in a 2-1 loss to former club Warriors FC on Saturday.

Indra returned to Geylang International for the 2016 season after leaving Tampines Rovers.

International career

Indra made his Singapore national team debut against Kuwait on April 26, 1997.

Indra has a knack for finding the net in big games, scoring goals against top-ranked countries like Uruguay and Japan, making him one of the best strikers to play for Singapore over the past decade.

Indra was a member of the Singapore squad for the 2004 AFF Championship. Despite struggling to form an alliance with A. Casmir, he ended up scoring the first leg of the 2004 AFF Championship, winning the tournament for the first time. In 1998, Indra missed after being suspended from the national squad for skipping training.

Indra sustained a knee injury while playing for the national team against Malaysia in May 2006, which kept him out of action for the remainder of the season. In December and the 2007 AFF Championship, he made his return to the national team for the 2006 King's Cup in December and the 2007 AFF Championship in early 2007. The Lions captured their second straight ASEAN championship.

Indra took over the armband and led the team to a 1–1 draw with national team captain Aide Iskandar pulled from the national team squad for the friendly against UAE. Aide Iskandar retired from international football just hours before the 2010 World Cup 2010 qualifier against Tajikistan on November 9, 2007. Indra was elected the new captain.

Indra is a member of the FIFA Century Club.

Indra was returned to the national team after his apparent international retirement in 2010 to face Myanmar in an away friendly on June 4th, 2013. As the team defeated 2–0, he started the game as captain, earning his 110th cap. In a 5–2 victory over Laos, he scored his 31st international goal in a 5–2 victory. On September 10, 2013, he was suspended for a short four matches against Hong Kong.
