He began his career at Sevilla, where he twice won the Europa League in 170 competitive matches. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, first on loan and then permanently in 2020.

Club career
Rico was born in Seville, Andalusia. In Segunda División B., he played youth football with Sevilla, spending several of his first seasons as a senior with the reserves. On July 1, 2013, he agreed to a new two-year contract with the club.
Rico made his first-team – and La Liga – debut on September 14, 2014, beating Getafe 2–0 home victories. He appeared in the UEFA Europa League four days later, winning the full 90 minutes against Feyenoord for the same scoreline.
Rico was definitely promoted to the main squad in December 2014, overtaking Barbosa in the pecking order. He signed with the Rojiblancos on January 16th, extending his contract until 2017 and being given a spot in the first team. He finished the season with 37 appearances in all sports, including 11 in the Europa League, which culminated in a 3–2 victory over Dnipro in the final.
Rico participated in Sevilla's UEFA Champions League group stage elimination in 2015–16, but was replaced by fellow youth graduate David Soria as the team went on to win their third straight Europa League title. He was still the first choice among supporters from 2017-18, but he was also involved in alterations with boss Vincenzo Montella and a group of supporters.
Rico was loaned to Fulham for a season on September 9, 2018. In a 0–3 home loss against Bournemouth on October 27, he made his Premier League debut on Sunday. Marcus Bettinelli, a homegrown player for the West London club, who were relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, edged him out as the starter.
Rico signed Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan agreement with an optional buyout clause, which was confirmed on September 1st. Keylor Navas was hospitalized before kick-off and his maiden appearance in Ligue 1 came two months later.
Rico signed a two-month contract extension at the Parc des Princes on June 29, 2020, after the campaign had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rico returned to Spain on January 2122, heading to Mallorca on loan until the season's end. International career
For the first time, Rico and Sevilla teammate Aleix Vidal were called up to the Spanish national team for the first time, ahead of a friendly against Costa Rica and a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match against Belarus, but he did not participate in either game. He was the third-choice goalkeeper for the final tournament behind Iker Casillas and David de Gea, and he made his debut on June 1st, beating South Korea 6–1 in Salzburg.
