She is perhaps best known for her appearance as Angela on Fox's Sons of Tucson, as well as Dr. Sydney Napur on David E. Kelley's Monday Mornings on TNT.

Personal life
Rao was born in Madison, Wisconsin, to a Telugu family from India. Velcheru Narayana Rao and Nidadavolu Malathi, a writer of short stories and essays in Telugu and English, are her parents. Jonathan Blue, ReKon Productions' Director of Creative Development, was married to her. Rao attended West High School in Madison, Wisconsin. She obtained her Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in 2005.
Acting career
Rao's first notable acting appearance came in the 2007 film Lions for Lambs, co-starring Robert Redford, Tom Cruise, and Meryl Streep. She has appeared in numerous television shows, including Veep, Bones, The Big Bang Theory, HawthoRNe, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Two and a Half Men. She appeared on the Fox sitcom Sons of Tucson in 2010; the film lasted one season. Sarayu was first introduced as Dr. Sydney Napur in 2012, a series regular on David E. Kelley's medical drama Monday Mornings (TNT). I Feel Bad, a NBC television series, became the actress in 2018. After season 1, it was cancelled. In the Universal Pictures comedy Blockers' year, Rao was paired opposite John Cena.
