Samantha Ruth Prabhu Life

Samantha Akkineni (née Ruth Prabhu), born 28 April 1987, is an Indian actress.

She has worked in film and Telugu and has received several awards, including four Filmfare Awards.

Akkineni has risen to become a leading actress in South India's film industry. She obtained a bachelor's degree in commerce but she served part-time on modelling assignments.

She received calls for film work soon, and her film debut in Gautham Menon's critically acclaimed Telugu romance film, Ye Maaya Chesave (2010), earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and a Nandi Award.

Samantha later became the second actress to receive both the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress in the same year for her roles in the films Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012) and Eega (2012).

Since then, she has mainly appeared in leading female roles in Telugu and Tamil films, including Dookudu (2011), the family dramas Seethamma Vaini (2013) and AR Murugados' Tamil action film Kaththi (2014).

Samantha's fourth Filmfare Award was also a winner in A A Aa (2016), Mersal (2017), and Rangasthalam (2018), both commercially successful, while her next films Theri (2016), 24 (2016), and Rangasthalam (2018) were also very well-received. Akkineni is a well-known celebrity endorser for brands and products, although she also founded Pratyusha Support in 2012 to provide medical care to women and children.

She donates her money from endorsements, product launches, and inauguration celebrations to the charity.

Early life

Samantha was born on April 28, 1987 to Joseph Prabhu, a Telugu father, and Ninette Prabhu, a Malayali mother from Alappuzha, Kerala. She was born in Pallavaram, Tamil Nadu, as the family's youngest child, with two elder brothers Jonathan and David, but she was still not fluent in the Tamil language. Despite her diverse past, she has referred to herself as a Tamilian. Samantha studied at Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai and then earned a degree in commerce. She became interested in modeling after her undergraduate degree, most notably with Naidu Hall, through which she was first noticed by filmmaker Ravi Varman.

Personal life and off-screen work

Samantha suffered with an extended period of illness in 2012, resulting in her being forced to cancel out of big film projects and take a two-month break from acting. She suffered from an immune disorder and then suffered a second setback after her body did not respond well to antibiotics. Naga Chaitanya began dating her in 2010 after appearing in the film Ye Maaya Chesave. On January 29, the two were married in a ceremony in Hyderabad. On traditional Hindu holidays, she married in Goa on October 6, 2017, followed by Christian customs on October 7th, 2017 and became a member of the Akkineni family. Samantha Akkineni became her married name before starting to use her married name. She deleted the word "Akkineni" from her social media handles on July 31, 2021, sparking rumors of her split with Naga Chaitanya. They announced their separation and eventual divorce on October 2nd, 2021.

Samantha was the brand ambassador for Saaki World on September 28, 2020.

Samantha has been involved in philanthropic endeavors and has generously contributed to her charitable trust, Pratyusha Support, which was founded in 2012. After being bedridden for 15 days during her documented illness in 2012, she decided to start a non-governmental group and wanted to give back to society. Samantha founded the Pratyusha Support group in order to provide medical assistance to women and children with the assistance of three doctors. She provided the program with full financial assistance. In August 2013, she held a fundraiser to raise money for her charity by auctioning many of her items and memorabilia from films. A new initiative in 2014 saw the introduction of a program to support children with life-threatening diseases; Samantha sponsored trips for children to fly on an airplane and fly to the Taj Mahal; and provided children with opportunities to visit their favorite film stars. Samantha has also been involved in raising haemophilia awareness by attending events that raise the condition.

Samantha decided in January 2015 to pay a third of the hospital bills of one infant per week who needed intensive care at Andhra Hospitals as a result of her charitable trust. Samantha agreed to pay a third of the bill, but Andhra Hospitals would pay a third of the bill, and the parents would pay the remaining third. Samantha signed a new deal with Andhra Hospitals in November 2015 to provide free of charge to all infants under the age of six months with rotaviral infections. Later this month, the actress appeared in an organ donation pledge at Madhapur. Samantha was in Hyderabad for the shooting of a film and assisted with the Telugu film industry's Mana Madras Kosam initiative. She assisted in gathering relief supplies at Ramanaidu Studios as part of the initiative. She appealed to the Telugu-speaking public to help gather funds to send to Chennai. In Pallavaram, the actress' hometown, she later donated 30 lakh rupees for flood relief efforts. Samantha defended Handloom People of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states by wearing them and staging photoshoots for handloom made sarees and other items. Samantha also established a business venture called 'Tweave', which was a initiative to advertise the handloom industry in Telangana.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu Career

Career

Samantha began her film career with Gautham Vasudev Menon's Telugu film Ye Maaya Chesave (2010). Due in large part to Gautham Menon's first-time collaboration with composer A. R. Rahman, the film, which was simultaneously made in Tamil as Vinnaitha and Varuvaa (2010), sparked a lot of curiosity prior to its unveiling. In mid-August 2009, the actress auditioned and was accepted for the project, worked on the film in India and the United States, while the film was released on February 26, 2010. Even if she had no dialogues in a scene, Menon said in a tweet that she had played a "crucial part in moulding her as an actress." Samantha played Jessie, a Malayali Saint Thomas Christian girl living in Hyderabad, with whom the male protagonist, played by Naga Chaitanya, falls in love. Samantha's portrayal got rave reviews upon its debut, with the film itself receiving a lot of critical attention. Samantha was praised as a "scene-stealer" and her beauty as "alluring," according to her, "she was the girl to watch out for." "Samantha's debut is one of the finest heroine debuts in Telugu cinema," Jeevi of Idlebrain.com said, "the "minute expressions she gave about her character spoke volumes about her" and that the film is a "classic." Ye Maaya Chesave received the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and a Nandi Award. In the Tamil version of the film, Samantha appeared as an assistant director who then becomes an actress. Both the Telugu and Tamil versions of the films were huge success, propelling Samantha to commit to bigger projects. She continued her friendships with Gautham Menon and A. R. Rahman by appearing in the music video for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 promotional song, Semmozh Mozhiyaam, which Menon directed and Rahman composed.

Baana Kaathadi (2010), Samantha's next film release, was a romantic romance, starring Adharvaa. The film was actually the third Tamil project signed by the actress, but it came before the first two were due to delays in their completion. Samantha played a student of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the first female role in Tamil cinema. Ravi Varman's Moscowin Kavery (2010), originally the first film she worked on, was her next film release. Samantha was filming in August 2007, and Yasodha, a screen name, was briefly attached to the project later in the year. Ravi Varman said in an interview held in 2008 that he had no doubt that Samantha would be the lead actress in his film within three minutes after seeing one of her commercial appearances. He went on to describe her as an actress with "intelligence" and "potential," although not drawing comparisons with Revathi. However, the film stalled in development hell, eventually releasing in August 2010. Critics generally dismissed the film, but Samantha's performance was praised as one of the film's sole highlights. Samantha debuted in August 2008 while still working on her last three projects, Pookada Ravi, although she was later shelved. Samantha went on to star in Vain Patel's Telugu film Brindaavanam (2010), in which she appeared alongside NTR Jr. and Kajal Aggarwal. Despite the fact that her character in Indu had less screen time than her previous films, the film was a hit in Telugu, and she was very well received.

Samantha appeared in Dookudu (2012), a big budget Telugu film that became one of the most popular Telugu films of all time. The film received rave reviews, while a critic from The Times of India said, "Samantha looks stunning and has done a good job, but it isn't too long." In addition, she appeared in two of Gautham Vasudev Menon's films, first in the psychological thriller film Nadunisi Naaya (2011) as a mental asylum incarcerate, and then reprised her role in the Hindi version of the film, Ekk Deewana Tha (2012). Despite only appearing in Telugu films, Nadunisi Naaygal was dubbed and released in Telugu as Eera Gulabeelu, with Samantha prominently on the film's posters, despite only having a guest appearance. Samantha had already been signed to two major budget projects in Tamil, Mani Ratnam's Kadal (2013) and Shankar's I (2015), but she was forced to withdraw from both films because she was suffering from a skin disease and couldn't work for two months during the summer. Samantha is next featured in S. Rajamouli's live action Telugu-Tamil bilingual project Eega (2012), a micro artist who runs a NGO and seeks revenge for her lover's murder. Samantha said she had to use her imagination and act accordingly as the film featured a CGI-created housefly as the main character. She also revealed that many heavy lights were used for the film's shooting and she later suffered skin burns, describing the process as "very difficult" but "satisfying." Samantha earned acclaim for her role in Naan Ee (2012) in Tamil. "Samantha blossoms in the role she was given," a Hindu commentator, while Idlebrain.com's Jeevi wrote that her "run of triumph continues as she did an excellent job as a bereaved lover." Sify.com also praised her performance in the film, saying that "subtle expressions of love, fear, and anxiety work well for the film" and that she "looks stunning and has carried out her role with consummate ease" and "looks gorgeous." The film went on to become a big commercial success, grossing more than 1.25 billion, and going on to be dubbed in several foreign and Indian languages.

Samantha appeared in Gautham Vasudev Menon's trilingual romantic drama film and portrayed Nithya in the Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions of the film, shooting scenes with three different actors simultaneously back-to-back. Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012) starred Jiiva, as the Tamil version, while Yeto Vellipoyindhu (2012) paired her opposite Nani. Aditya Roy Kapoor's Assi Nabbe Poorey Sau was shot simultaneously with the other two films and was "sixty percent" complete before Menon shelved the venture after his other Hindi film, Ekk Deewana Tha, had failed at the box office. The film spanned three decades in a couple's life, focusing on their intimate life at school, college, and in their late teens. Samantha revealed that Gautham would want to work with her again and so accepted the opportunity to play the roles when she was first introduced to the role. Nithya's character was "close to her," she said, "could relate to the characteristics and the circumstances the character goes through." Samantha dub for herself in the Tamil version of the film in order to make her appearance as authentic as possible. In December 2012, the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film were released, with differing reactions. Neethane En Ponvasantham's reviews varied and did average at the box office, though Samantha received acclaim for her portrayal. "She comes up with possibly the best performance by a female lead in Tamil cinema this year," the critic wrote. "Her transformation from a teen to an adult, who is unable to escape her ego, is spectacular." "Samantha's transformation from a school kid to an adult is a treat to watch," IBN said, while Rediff.com said she is "pretty, graceful, and does an excellent job of expressing the emotions of a girl in love, particularly during the school scene, while concluding she carries the film on her slender shoulders." The Telugu version, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu, received rave reviews and did well, as Samantha's contribution was also highly acclaimed. "Samantha has the author backed role and she creams it," the Hindu wrote "steps farther from her well-known portrayal of Jessy (Ye Maaya Chesaave) and brings out the complexities of her character well." The actress then received the Best Actress awards for both the Tamil and Telugu film industries for her appearances in Neethane En Ponvasantham and Eega at the Filmfare Awards ceremony honoring South Indian films of 2012. Samantha became the second-ever actress to achieve the feat after Revathi had received both awards in 1992. She received more accolades for Best Actress at the Vijay Awards, Santosham Film Awards, and the CineMAA Awards in 2012.

Although Samantha appeared in her early films, post-2012, she has continued to appear in big-budget, hero-oriented films, which have notably smaller scope for actresses. Samantha appeared in Seethamma Vaintu (2013), a Telugu multi-starrer film starring Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu, which received critical praise and was commercially lucrative. IBN Live said it was "good to see Samantha leave her glamorous side and welcome performance-oriented roles, which she only does with deftness and ease" because her role was largely minuscule to her co-stars. Samantha is "getting better by the day and it's a joy to watch her on film," a romantic comedy Jabardasth (2013) starring Siddharth, in which she played a wedding planner. Samantha then appeared alongside Pawan Kalyan in Attarintiki Daredi (2013), which became the highest-grossing Telugu film on release. Samantha "exudes confidence despite having little screen time and nothing to do," according to a Rediff.com analyst, who received Best Actress accolades at the SIIMA Awards and Santosham Film Awards. Samantha's last release of 2013 was in the struggling Telugu masala film Ramaya Vasthavaya, where she appeared in a small part, with a commentator noting "we've seen Samantha in better roles and better films."

Samantha appeared in six films and return to the Tamil film industry in 2014. Samantha appeared in Manam (2014), her first film appearance, where she appeared alongside many members of the Akkineni film family. Samantha received accolades for her work as both a young mother and a college student in two different time periods, with Sify's reviewer stating that she "emotes well and quickly shifts between the roles." Samantha received a nomination for Best Actress from the Filmfare Awards, as well as Critics' Best Actress at the SIIMA Awards. Samantha appeared in the long-awaited Autonagar Surya (2014) alongside Naga Chaitanya before playing various minuscule roles in the Telugu action masala films Alludu Seenu (2014) and Rabhasa (2014). Critics also blasted that she had "signed up to be a glam doll" for the ventures. She has "previously demonstrated that she is capable of doing more," but she's "now" appears to be stuck in roles that call for her to be a good prop." Samantha later revealed that she purely worked on Alludu Seenu as a favor to producer Bellamkonda Suresh, who had helped her postpone Jabardasth's production due to her health issues.

Samantha appeared on two big budget Tamil films simultaneously in early 2014, collaborating with industry-leading actors and directors. Anjaan (2014), a gangster masala film directed by N. Lingusamy, received critical feedback and performed poorly at the box office. Critics blasted Samantha "gamely does the appropriate crazy girl duties" in a small role. AR Murugadoss' action drama Kaththi (2014) opposite Vijay received mostly critical feedback and became the most profitable Tamil film of 2014. Reviewers sluggishly criticized her character, saying "all she had to do in the film is smile and look pretty," The Hindu claimed that she was "an emoticon" and "that covers her participation in the proceedings." She appeared in the Telugu film S/O Satyamurthy with Allu Arjun as a part of another hero-orientated film, but critics also noted that she "enacts her part with poise" and that she "plays her part well."

She appeared in her second role as a part of Vijay Milton's road film, 10 Endrathukulla (2015), where she appeared alongside Vikram. Critics, including Anjaan and Kaththi, sluggish, with Sify.com stating "beyond a point Samantha's character is obviously offending." She portrayed a new rural look for a specific role, and her role received mixed reviews, with a writer noting "Samantha doesn't make much of a difference in the film except towards the end." Samantha received raves for her role and work in Velraj's Thanga Magan, where she appeared opposite Dhanush. For the first time in Tamil films, the actress played a wife in a homely role, and she said it would be the first of many such performance-oriented roles as she moved away from being stereotyped in charming characters. Samantha "has given a very understated and mature appearance sans drama," a critic on Sify.com called her work "impressive." In the same vein, a Silverscreen film critic said that she "delivers a performance that stands head and shoulders above her previous films."

Samantha's first appearance in the Tamil romantic drama film Bangalore Naatkal, where she made a guest appearance and reprised Nithya Menen's small role from the film's Malayalam original. She appeared in Atlee's Theri for the second time in her career and appeared alongside Vijay for the second time in her career. Her performance received rave reviews, with a DNA India commentator saying "Samantha looks just as well" and that "he has done an amazing job in dubbing with a range of emotions in her numerous shades – doctor, lover, mother – and she shines." Theri, according to Behindwoods.com, "could be one of Samantha's finest roles; she plays a doctor and has given out a soulful performance." On its debut, the film became one of the most profitable Tamil films of all time, snapping a barren spell for the actor in Tamil cinema by being her first commercially successful film in Tamil cinema since Kaththi (2014). Samantha appeared in the critically acclaimed, fantasy film 24 for the second time with director Vikram Kumar and Suriya. Samantha earned praise for her small role in the film, with Sify.com claiming that the actress "does well in the comedy scenes." Following her back-to-back commercial successes, the film also did well at the box office, with The Hindu stating she was "at the top of the film industry."

Samantha appeared in three high-profile Telugu films during 2016; though Mahesh Babu's family drama Brahmotsavam opposite Mohammed Benesh Babu was a box office flop, her role in Trivikram Srinivas' romantic comedy, A A Aa alongside Nithiin, earned her critical and commercial acclaim. Samantha Ramalingam, a young girl struggling to escape from her mother's domineing behavior, has been praised for her character portrayal. "A Aa unquestionably is Samantha's film," a New Indian Express reviewer said, "from the first frame to the last, she gives her best work and shows what she can do if given ample screen time." "Samantha," a mother of three children, is "unfortunately, she's reeling in her mother's shadow and can also play the clumsy, clumsy girl with ease," a reviewer for The Hindu said, "She's vulnerable as a 23-year-old reeling in her mother's shadow and can also play the demanding, troubled girl with ease," ending with "this is a role she can be proud of." "Samantha and Nithiin's appearance in this film was also highlighted on Bollywoodlife.com as the "life and soul of the romantic comedy"'s life, according to DNA India's reviewer, "this film will be talked about for days to come." The film also did well at the box office, generating record-breaking profits for a Telugu film that was released in the United States. Her appearance at the Filmfare Awards earned her several accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu, her fourth at the Filmfare Awards. She appeared in the commercially lucrative action film Janatha Garage, directed by Koratala Siva, with a critic remarking that despite "limited parts," she gives a good show. She starred in Atlee's Mersal for the third time in her career and appeared alongside Vijay for the third time in her career, and the film became one of the top-grossing Tamil films of 2017 and was a blockbuster. Mersal entered the 200 crore club.

In 2018, she had a fruitful association with Rangasthalam, which would have been the all-time Telugu Blockbuster only behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Baahubali: The Beginning. The Tamil film Irumbu Thirai, in which she appeared opposite Vishal and the Telugu film Mahanati, was a hit at the box office, and both actors lasted more than 100 days at the box office. Her performances in Rangasthalam and Mahanati were lauded. Mridula R from The News Minute said her critically acclaimed film U Turn as a curiosity-generating script that gives her the most prominent screen presence since the film begins, rather than shaking a leg in Anjaan, Kaththi, Attarintiki Daredi, or being a glam doll or having out of scope performances.

She appears in her first women-centric film U Turn, and her next role in another women-centric film Oh! On July 5, 2019, a baby was announced. Miss Granny, a South Korean film from 2014, is the film's remake. Its gross collection of 40 crores was unveiled. One reviewer characterized her career as the best on record in her career. Samantha's talent, the burden of old age, and the general public's indifference to elderly people's needs and complaints, according to Manoj Kumar R. of The Indian Express. She will appear in another hit film Majili. Chaitanya and Samantha's fourth collaboration after Ye Maaya Chesave, Manam, and Autonagar Surya's first meeting since their marriage. Her character was dubbed one of the best ones of 2019 films. She was nominated for her role in the two films. In the 2020 film Jaanu, which is a remake of the 2018 Tamil film '96, Samantha next played Janaki Devi. Her performance in the film was also receiving positive feedback, and she got positive feedback. In 2021, she appeared in Pushpa: The Rise with Allu Arjun in the film "Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava." Kaadhal's first publication in 2022 received mixed feedback. She appeared in Khatija alongside Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, and was directed by Vignesh Shivan.

The film was released in Hyderabad and is set in a Kashmir setting. It's possibly named VD11.
