Samuel Robert Rivers (born September 2, 1977, Jacksonville, Florida) is the bassist and backing vocalist of the band Limp Bizkit, as well as one of the band's founding members.
Early life
Rivers' musical career began early, with him playing the tuba in a band at Arlington Middle School. He first discovered music due to John Otto, who played jazz-style drums.
Many have said that Otto is a cousin of Rivers, but Rivers admits they initially believed they were cousins, but that neither parents were related.
He attended Bishop Kenny High School. He played guitar before playing bass, but he dropped at the suggestion of his music teacher.
Personal life
Black Sabbath and Megadeth are two of his influences. Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam has a major influence on his playing.
Rivers married Kinter Atkins in the early 2000s. They separated due to personal reasons. Rivers is currently in a dating burgeoning relationship with pornographic actress Kayla Paige.
Career
Fred Durst was first encountered by the river in a Jacksonville mall working at a Chick-fil-A. The two people started talking and discovered that they had many passions, including skateboarding and music. They decided to get together for a jam session. Rivers was already a natural bass player, and Durst would be a singer. Malachi Sage, a short-lived band, was formed by the couple and several others. Rivers' talents on guitar will play in Limp Bizkit's Results May Vary album, the only album not starring longtime guitarist Wes Borland, with Rivers playing both guitar and bass on select songs such as "Creamer" and "Lonely World."
The band didn't work out, they decided to try again, this time Otto came into play as the drummer at the suggestion of Rivers. The three people founded Limp Bizkit in 1994. Wes Borland, a guitarist, and DJ Lethal were among the first to enter the fold in 1996. Rivers was the band's youngest member. Yall's first album, Three Dollar Bill, was released in 19 years.
Rivers reportedly left Limp Bizkit in 2015 after being diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. Rivers later learned that his departure from Limp Bizkit in 2020 was due to liver disease caused by heavy drinking. Rivers have since undergone a liver transplant. Samuel Gerhard Mpungu and Tsuzumi Okai covered live bass duties in absence.
At the 2000 Gibson Awards, he was named Best Bass Player.
Rivers became a producer for local bands in Jacksonville after Limp Bizkit went on hiatus. Burn Season and The Embraced are his first albums. Rivers has been producing for the Orlando-based band Indorphine for the longest time. Rivers were booked as the opening act for a Mushroomhead/SOiL concert, rather than recording their latest studio work.
Rivers returned to Limp Bizkit in early 2009 for tours and their sixth studio album, Gold Cobra was released in 2011.
Rivers is now working on a new project with Burn Season singer Damien Starkey, as well as Adam Latiff and Saliva vocalist Bobby Amaru, who was also a founding member and drummer for Burn Season. On March 1, 2019, they revealed their self-titled debut album.
