He began working at Fast Company as a video blogger, and later on Rackspace and the Rackspace-sponsored community site Building 43 promoting breakthrough technology and startups.
Early life and education
Scoble was born in New Jersey in 1965 and grew up about a kilometer from Apple Computer's head office in Silicon Valley.
He dropped out early in 1993 without finishing his degree in journalism from San Jose State University's School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Personal life
He is married to Maryam Ghaemmaghami Scoble. Despite the fact that he considers himself an atheist, he converted to Islam about the time of the marriage. He has three sons, one with autism.
Career
Scoble accepted a position at Microsoft in June 2003. In its February 15, 2005 edition, the Economist outlined Scoble's importance:
Scoble left Microsoft on June 10, 2006, to join Podtech.net as vice president of media growth with a higher salary and "a very aggressive stock option" that would have made him wealthy if his new firm had succeeded. According to Alexa Internet, that day brought the most traffic to his website and PodTech over his lifetime. He died on June 28, 2006, his last day at Microsoft.
He inadvertently leaked information (by loading a post on TechCrunch) that he would leave PodTech on January 14, 2008 and was likely to join Fast Company on December 11, 2007. On December 12, he confirmed the news on his blog but stated that he had not yet signed on with Fast Company. He conducted a video interview about his projects and leased studio space from Revision3.
Scoble released FastCompany.tv on March 3, 2008, with two shows: FastCompany Live and ScobleizerTV. The first appears on cell phones, according to He who characterized it as "a show done entirely on cell phones." The second is similar to his previous PodTech show, but with newer electronics and a camera operator. The show is filmed in 720p HD with two cameras.
Scoble revealed on March 14, 2009, on his blog and on the Gillmor Gang that he was joining Rackspace. As part of his work at the company, he collaborated with the company to produce Building 43, a new content and social networking website that aims to help attract new startups and market pioneering technology. In 2012, Building 43 was re-branded as Small Teams with a Big Impact. Scoble's primary goal is to locate and report cutting edge technology.
Scoble left Rackspace to join UploadVR as an entrepreneur in residence in 2016.
