Robert Greene (born May 14, 1959) is an American author best known for his books on strategy, control, and seduction.
He has published six international bestsellers: The 48 Laws of Seduction, The Art of Seduction, The 33 Ways of Seduction, The Art of Seduction, The Constitution of War (with rapper 50 Cents), Mastery, and The Human Nature Laws.
Early life
Greene, the younger son of Jewish parents, grew up in Los Angeles and attended the University of California, Berkeley, before graduating with a B.A. Classical studies. Greene estimates he worked 60 to 65 jobs, including as a construction worker, translator, magazine editor, and Hollywood film writer before becoming an author. Greene worked as a writer at Fabrica, an Italian art and media academy, in 1995, where he encountered Joost Elffers, a book packager. Greene sold a book about power to Elffers and wrote a book that would later become The 48 Laws of Power. He'll remember this as his life's turning point.
Personal life
Greene and his partner Anna Biller, who is a film director, live in Los Angeles. Greene can speak five languages and is a Zen Buddhist scholar.
Ryan Holiday, the best-selling author of Trust Me, I'm Lying, The Obstacle Is the Way, Ego Is the Enemy, and The Daily Stoic, is a mentor.
Greene favors Barack Obama in the 2012 US presidential election and identifies with liberal politics. Donald Trump misunderstands power, according to Greene.
When asked if he is religious in 2012, Greene said, "I'm Jewish but I don't have a hardcore spiritual practice." I'm not hardcore Atheist; I'm not sure how Einstein was: He wasn't a believer in the Jewish God. The suggestion that there's something there is intriguing.
Greene suffered with a serious stroke before releasing his latest book The Laws of Human Nature in 2018. The stroke was caused by a bee sting that resulted in a blood clot in his neck, leaving Greene without the use of his left hand and leg for a long time.
