Television career
Wilkins, along with Joy Smithers and Alison Drower, was the first host of MTV Australia when it was launched in 1987. MTV Australia established a new standard for music television in Australia.
He hosted Keynotes, a summertime replacement for Sale of the Century, in 1992. He appeared on Entertainment Tonight with Marie Patane in 1999. He hosted the Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks telecast for ten years (excluding 1999-00). Wilkins appeared at the Australian leg of the Live Earth concert on July 7, 2007.
