Rachael Maud Lampa (born January 8, 1985) is an American contemporary Christian singer, songwriter, and record producer.
With the release of her debut album, Live for You, at age 15, she came to fame and critical acclaim in 2000.
Early life
Lampa was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but she was raised in Louisville, Colorado, a small city just south of Boulder. Her father is Filipino and her mother is of Hungarian and Chinese descent. She is the second oldest of four children. She and her three other siblings live in Nashville. Lampa and her siblings run People Loving Nashville, whose goal is to feed and clothe the homeless of Nashville. Both her parents now live in Colorado. Lampa began singing as a child and learned to sing in perfect harmony by the time she was four years old. She was active in sports throughout Colorado, winning championships and performing the National Anthem at major sporting events. As an infant, she was raised in a Catholic household and had a strong faith foundation.
While attending (but not competing in) the Music in the Rockies, a Christian music conference in Colorado, she was discovered by Word Records A&R and producer Brent Bourgeois at age 14. This resulted in a bidding war between the Christian labels in Nashville, but she later signed for Word Records, which was owned by then-Sony.
Personal life
Lampa graduated from Monarch High School in May 2003. She was a starting point guard for the girls basketball team while in high school. Brendan McCarthy was married on March 27, 2010. Stacie Orrico, a lampa and singer, are close friends. Lampa lives in Nashville. Both as the artist and the audience, she has dipped in and out of recording and touring. The periods of silence, she said, were for personal research, for identity checks, and to maintain a genuine and authentic Christian faith. "I've had some rough days, but I knew I'd have to avoid distracting myself and lean into it." Lampa returned home and announced that she was expecting her first child after nearly two years on the road with Hozier. Jackson, Jackson's son, was born on September 18, 2016.
Music career
