Liam James Preece (born 15 May 1985) is an English singer, guitarist, singer, and lyricist best known as the frontman of Manchester-based indie rock band The Courteeners, which formed in 2006. Fray hails from Middleton, Greater Manchester, and he often refers to his hometown in numerous songs.

Fray wrote "Not Nineteen Forever" and "Cavorting" during his time at university, while working in Manchester's Fred Perry clothing store and frequently performed at open mic nights as an acoustic singer-songwriter. "I've been playing since 2005 – I did a year on my own – and in the summer of 2006, the Courteeners [members] banded together and began performing properly around Christmas."

Fray wrote all of the Courteeners' songs; he says they are purely autobiographical. Fray "an underrated lyricist" has been described by Smith, an ex-Smiths guitarist.

He has six studio albums, including Courteeners. Both of them were ranked in the UK Albums Chart, and the two groups, St. Jude (2008) and Falcon (2010), both achieved Gold status. With their sixth studio album More, the band has climbed to their highest chart position so far. Once more. Forever. The UK is the world's largest market. (2020) 2. On Saturday, the band performed their best headline gig to 50,000 people at Manchester's Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.

Fray also appears in acoustic solo shows and playing the band's hits off the band's catalog. Alone's 2013 tour was the best on record in the United Kingdom. On October 8, 2016, he performed a special solo set at the Albert Hall in Manchester. Fray continued to complete a sold out acoustic tour in November/December 2017, with three sets at the Manchester Albert Hall in the space of two days.

Fray also created the front art for Courteeners' debut album St. Jude (2008), which also stars Audrey Hepburn. He has appeared on the front page of NME magazine twice, one as an individual and the other as a Courteener.

The Beatles, the Smiths, Oasis, Stephen Fretwell, Elbow, the National, and the Yes Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeahs are among his favorite artists.

Fray plays a cherry Epiphone Riviera electric guitar with a frequensator tailpiece (his main live guitar in the St. Jude (2008) period), a Gretsch White Falcon Double Cutaway electric guitar (appeared in Falcon (2010), Concrete Love (2014) eras), and Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar, among other things.

The Courteeners made history this week when their album debuted on the Official UK charts nearly 15 years since it was first released. Since releasing of their 15th anniversary edition of the album, the Manchester-formed rock trio's debut, St Jude, has released their first-ever number one album. The new edition includes remastered tracks as well as previously unreleased ones.
