Page Hamilton Life

Page Nye Hamilton (born May 18, 1960) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer best known for his collaboration with alternative metal band Helmet.

The bulk of his output has been produced in the hard rock and alternative metal styles, though he trained in jazz guitar and has deep links to avant-garde music and film soundtrack composition.

Personal life

Hamilton was married in the 1990s but later divorced because she had no children and later divorced. He moved to Los Angeles in 2002, citing the increasing cost of living in New York as the reason for the change. Winona Ryder, an American actress, began a year-long friendship the following year. She was a listener of the band, according to Hamilton, and many of Helmet's 2004 comeback Size Matters lyrics were apparently inspired by their friendship. Hamilton has claimed that his name has been mistaken for a woman at times due to his gender, which is pronounced the same way as feminine name Paige.

Page Hamilton Career

Life and career

Hamilton was born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Medford, Oregon. He studied guitar at the University of Oregon before going to New York to study jazz guitar at the Manhattan School of Music. While working in avant-garde composer Glenn Branca's guitar orchestra, performing the composer's Symphony No.6 (Devil Choirs at the Gates of Heaven), and supporting the Noise Rock band Band of Susans, performing on their Love Agenda album and Peel Sessions, before finally forming his own band, Helmet.

Helmet appeared on Amphetamine Reptile Records, releasing a number of 7" singles and one album, 1990's Strap It On. The band later signed to Interscope Records, releasing Meantime (1992), Betty (1994), and Aftertaste (1997). The band formed Size Matters (2004) after a seven-year absence. Size Matters' debut, they left Interscope, and the band released the albums Monochrome (2006), Seeing Eye Dog (2010), and Dead to the World (2016).

Meantime was the band's biggest commercial success, earning gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Music critics loved the album, and it has been regarded as one of the Best Metal Performance category for 1993.

Hamilton has been the only founding member of Helmet since 2004, and after the departure of guitarist Chris Traynor in 2006, he has been the only one to have been associated with Helmet during its initial tenure in the 1990s. Hamilton has stated that he intends to continue playing with Helmet until he is "physically incompetent."

Hamilton formed Gandhi, a late 1990s rock band formed with former Liege Lord guitarist Anthony Truglio (guitar), Christian Bongers (bass), and Matt Flynn (later the drummer for Maroon 5). Although the band did not announce any music officially, several demo tracks were leaked. Several of these incidents were later identified by Helmet for the Size Matters and Monochrome series.

Hamilton, who is still a member of Helmet, began writing and performing music for film, appearing on films including Heat, Titus, In Dreams, Catwoman, and Chicago Cab. Helmet has contributed to several movie soundtracks, including The Crow, Feeling Minnesota, Johnny Mnemonic, Saw 3, Underworld, and appearing in The Jerk Boys: The Movie (a Black Sabbath cover of the Black Sabbath song "Symptom of the Universe").

Hamilton has also worked as a record producer, most notable for producing the album Distort Yourself by former Bush singer Gavin Rossdale's band Institute. Bullets and Octane (In the Mouth of the Young), Classic Case (Life at Play), and Totimoshi have all released albums.

Hamilton served as the lead guitarist for David Bowie's band on the singer's Hours Tour during Helmet's hiatus.

He has performed on a number of other artists' recordings, including trumpeter Ben Neill's Goldbug, alt-country songwriter Joe Henry's Trampoline, and Northern Ireland rock band Therapy. Wire's Object 47, a Troublegum and British post-punk group, is a British newspaper published in the United States.

He has performed with his own bands, the Page Hamilton Quintet and the Jazz Wannabes, as well as fellow guitarist and mentor John Stowell.

Sonic Shapes: Expanding Rock Guitar Vocabulary, also a guitar instruction DVD created by Hal Leonard Corporation.

Page contributed to the writing of track 8, "Opposite of Left and Wrong" during the spring of 2008.

Hamilton appeared on Linkin Park's sixth studio album The Hunting Party, in which he contributed additional vocals (on the chorus) and guitars on the album's second track "All for Nothing." Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson produced the song on their own.
