Early life

Considine was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, where he now lives. He and his brother and four sisters were raised in a council estate in Winshill, a village of Burton. Martin Joseph Considine, his father, was Irish. Considine attended Abbot Beyne Senior School and Burton College, among other schools. Considine began studying at Burton College for a National Diploma in Performing Arts, where he first met Shane Meadows.

Considine began studying photography at the University of Brighton in 1994. Although studying under Paul Reas, he described one project, portraits of Considine's parents in their Winshill house as "fucking amazing." Considine was threatened with expulsion at one point, but he graduated with a first-class B.A.

Personal life

Considine's personal life is private, and he once said that if he were to become a celebrity, he would "disappear and go and make shoes like Daniel Day-Lewis" (a nod to Day Lewis' sabbatical work as a shoemaker in Italy). Considine married Shelley Insley in 2002, with whom he has been in a relationship since he was 18. They have three children. Considine and his family still reside in Burton upon Trent, which is also in his hometown.

Considine, who was in his 30s at the time, reported he had been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome in April 2011. Despite being initially encouraged by the diagnosis, he continued to fail in social situations until doctor Andrew Barton-Breck suspected him of Irlen Syndrome. He was later diagnosed by Helen Irlen herself in 2013 with Irlen syndrome, a condition in which the brain cannot properly process visual stimuli. Since wearing purple Irlen filters on-set or as standard tinted glasses, his condition has soared noticeably.
