Masour Ousmane Dembélé (born 15 May 1997), a French professional footballer, competes for Spanish club Barcelona and the French national team as a forward. Born in Vernon, Dembélé started his career at Rennes before joining Dortmund in 2016.

In the 2016-17 season, he beat Die Borussen in the DFB-Pokal, scoring a goal in the final.

He migrated to Barcelona for a first fee of €105 million, making him the joint-second most expensive footballer ever alongside compatriot Paul Pogba.

In an injury-riddled first season in Spain, Dembélé gained the double of La Liga and Copa del Rey. Dembélé made his senior international debut for France in 2016, winning 20 caps and scoring five goals at youth level.

He was selected in France's squad for the 2018 World Cup, which the team won.

Personal life

Dembele is a practising Muslim. Since December 2019, he has been married to a Moroccan woman in a Moroccan traditional ceremony. They have a daughter who was born in September 2022. He is a sponsor of Leeds United's Premier League club.

When Dembélé, alongside fellow teammate Antoine Griezmann, circulated online in a video clip involving him and other Asian technicians in their hotel room, he was embroiled in a racial controversy in July 2021. Dembélé made a remark in French when the technicians appeared to be troubleshooting the room's television, saying, "All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES," says the technician. "What the fuckin word means?" says the narrator. While laughing at one of the technicians' faces, he said, "Are you technologically advanced in your region or not?" says the technician. "Italian immigrants. "

In a game against the reserves of Laval on November 9, he scored his first career goal, this time off the bench. In his first season, he had scored in 18 games, including a hat-trick in a 6–1 victory over Hérouville on May 16, 2015.

Joao Cancelo reveals his family and unborn baby were sent 'death wishes' after Barcelona's Champions League defeat by PSG... as Man City loanee says he couldn't sleep following the loss

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
Joao Cancelo has revealed that his family have been sent 'death wishes' after Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.  PSG overturned a 3-2 defeat in the first-leg to secure a dramatic 6-4 victory against Barcelona at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, with Luis Enrique's side going on to secure a berth in the semi-finals, where they'll take on Borussia Dortmund. Cancelo, who is on loan from Manchester City, played 82 minutes of the match and was involved in a controversial incident just on the hour mark, where he conceded a penalty for lunging in on ex-Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

THE EURO FILES: It's time for Xavi to go down swinging in his final El Clasico... but his broken Barcelona stars are closer to hitting each other than challenging Real Madrid

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
PETER JENSON: It's Xavi's last stand on Sunday - his final El Clasico in charge of Barcelona. And things can go one of only two ways as his side travel to the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid go into Sunday's game having had a day's less recovery time after 120 minutes of defending against Manchester City. They still have difficult away games at Real Sociedad and Villarreal, plus the distraction of the Champions League semi-finals.

Why Xavi's long Barcelona goodbye could be cut short if Real Madrid humble them after Champions League exit to PSG, which exposed cracks in a tense dressing room

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2024
PETE JENSON: The end is nigh for Xavi. It could even come on Sunday night if Barcelona lose the Clasico and slip 11 points behind Real Madrid. A defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu would leave Barça with a six-game run-in and only second place to play for.  They need to finish second for the €5million [£4.27m] they will earn from the Spanish Super Cup, but chasing runners-up positions is not what the club is about and May will be a long month mainly spent speculating over who the new manager will be.
