Early life
Sy was born in Trappes, on the twentieth of January 1978, the fourth of eight children, and the fourth of eight others in the Île-de-France department. Both of his parents are from West Africa. Diaratou's Mauritanian mother, Diaratou, and his Senegalese father, Demba, worked in an auto parts factory in Bakel until moving to France in 1962. Sy is of Fulani origins. He was born in Trappes' low-income suburban housing projects. Every other summer, the family travelled to Senegal and then spoke Pulaar at home.
Personal life
Sy married Hélène, the mother of his five children, in Tremblay-sur-Mauldre on July 5, 2007. They had been together for ten years before marrying. Hélène is the founder of CéKeDuBonheur, a non-profit that helps children's wards at French hospitals, and Siyah Organics, a Sénégalo-American organic-supplements firm. The family lived in Montfort-l'Amaury, a greniere of Île-de-France, before transferring to Los Angeles in 2012. Sy spent a daily language tutor and watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians to improve his English.

Career
Sy began his career after high school, working at Radio Nova, where he met his comedy partner Fred Testot. Later on, he appeared on Canal+'s Le Cinéma de Jamel, with Jamel Debbouze. Le Visiophon was then created as a television show. He appeared in several television and stage shows, including Je ne pas mon âge and Omar et Fred: le spectacle, among other things. With Testot, which was a French short comedy television series from 2005 to 2012 on Canal+, the most notable thing was that Sy co-hosted Service après-vente des émissions, which was a French short comedy television series.
