Olivier Martinez (born 12 January 1966) is a French film actor.

He became well-known for his appearances in several French films, including "Most Promising Actor" ("1996) and The Chambermaid on the Titanic (1995).

He has appeared in Hollywood films including the thriller Before Night Falls (2000), the sexual thriller Unfaithful (2002), and playing the role of a French drug lord in S.W.A.T.'s action-crime-thriller S.W.A.T. (2003-2004).

Early life

Martinez was born in Paris, France, to a working-class family. His father was a Spanish professional boxer, and his mother was a French secretary. In 1990, he began his acting career in France, where he met at the CNSAD. Martinez was raised Catholic.

Personal life

Since meeting Australian singer and actress Kylie Minogue at the 2003 Grammy Awards ceremony, Martinez began a friendship. In February 2007, they announced that they did not know each other well.

After meeting on the set of the action thriller film Dark Tide (2012), Martinez began dating American actress Halle Berry in 2010. In March 2012, the two announced their engagement. Martinez was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital after being wounded in a physical altercation with Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, Berry's former partner and father of her daughter. Aubry and Berry were embroiled in a custody dispute centered on Berry's desire to move with their daughter and Martinez to his homeland France, a request rejected by a judge less than two weeks before the altercation because it would interfere with Berry and Aubry's joint custody arrangement. At the end of November, the custody dispute was settled.

On July 13, 2013, Berry and Martinez married in a private ceremony in France. Their son was born in Los Angeles in October 2013. They announced their divorce in 2015, but it was reported that in December 2016, it had been completed. However, the lawsuit is also ongoing as of November 2020.

Martinez received a César Award in 1994 for his role in the film Un, deux, trois, soleil (1993). Martinez first gained national attention in Hollywood films with his role in Julian Schnabel's Before Night Falls (2000) starring Javier Bardem and Johnny Depp. The screenplay is based on Reinaldo Arenas, the same name that was published in English in 1993. Martinez's role was highly lauded in the eyes of critics, but the film was largely acclaimed. He was later known for his role in Unfaithful (2002). Since appearing in a television version of Mrs. Stone's The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (2003), S.W.A.T. Taking Lives (2004) and (2003) Taking Lives.
