Early life

Reno was born in Casablanca, Morocco, on the 30th of July 1948. His parents, who were born in Sanl's de Barrameda and Jerez de la Frontera in Andalucia, were Spanish. They had to go back to North Africa to find jobs and flee Francoist Spain.

Mara Teresa, his younger sister, ("Maite"); the children were raised Catholic. Their father was a linotypist. When they were a child, their mother died. He learned Spanish from his parents and Arabic and French growing up in Morocco.

At the age of 17, he migrated to France, where he studied at the Cours Simon School of Drama.

He served in the French Army when he arrived in France, which was compulsory after his family obtained French citizenship.

Personal life

Reno married Geneviève in 1977. Reno married Nathalie Dyszkiewicz, a Polish model, in 1995 after his first divorce in 1988. They divorced in 2001.

Reno married Zofia Borucka, a British model and actress of Polish descent, at the Les Baux-de-Provence city hall on July 29, 2006, for the third time. Nicolas Sarkozy, the presidential nominee, served as his best man (Reno endorsed Sarkozy in the 2007 French presidential election). Reno owns three homes in Paris, Malaysia, and Los Angeles.

Juan adopted Jean, Jean, in France, and shortened his surname to Reno as he began to work acting in France. Reno was called on to play "heavies" in his early career due to his massive frame (1.88 m or 6 ft 2 in). He appeared in romantic comedies and action films later in life. He began his film career in France, appearing in many films directed by Luc Besson, including his early Le Dernier Combat (1983). Besson and the two characters have continued to work together, filming, written, or directed by Besson. La Femme Nikita (1990), and the English-language films The Professional (1994) are among their joint projects that have achieved the most critical and commercial success. In the French-language version of The Lion King, Reno did the voice-over for Mufasa, a part played in English by James Earl Jones. Reno has appeared in such high-profile American films as French Kiss (1995) with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline, Mission: Impossible (1996) with Tom Cruise, Ronin (1998) with Robert De Niro, and Godzilla (1998) with Matthew Broderick. In The Matrix, Reno refused to play Agent Smith. He appeared in Les Visiteurs (1993) (which was remade in English as Just Visit in 2001); The Crimson Rivers (2000); and Jet Lag (Décalage Horaire), which was also a box-office hit in France, and the actor appeared in French films Les Visiteurs (1993) (which was also a box-office success).

Reno appeared in The Pink Panther 2006 remake and its sequel The Pink Panther 2, opposite Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau, in 2006. In the Ron Howard film The Da Vinci Code, he played Captain Bezu Fache. Les Visiteurs and L'Enquète corse are two of his most popular films.

Reno appeared in other media's as well as providing the voice for the character's French dialogue. Reno has appeared in American television commercials for UPS and portrayed Doraemon in a string of Toyota advertisements in Japan as part of the "ReBorn" campaign. Jo in the 2013 English-language television series Jo appeared as Jo.
