Nicholas Lea (born Nicholas Christopher Herbert; June 22, 1962) is a Canadian actor known for his portrayal of Alex Krycek on The X-Files and of Tom Foss on Kyle XY.
Life and career
Lea Lea was born in New Westminster, British Columbia. He attended Prince of Wales Secondary School (graduated 1980).
Lea's first big role was on the television series The Commish, where he played Officer Enrico Caruso from 1991 to 1994. "Gender Bender" was a minor guest appearance in a first-season episode of The X-Files. The producers were captivated by his appearance, and when he auditioned for the role of turncoat FBI agent Alex Krycek in the second season, he was accepted.
Lea guest appeared in eleven episodes from 1994 to 1996 and became a hit among the fans. He was nicknamed the 'ratboy' because of his character's willingness to switch sides. Krycek was left to die in an abandoned missile silo with an alien ship in season three's "Apocrypha." Lea was able to appear in the film Once a Thief, which came after John Woo's 1996 film "Alongside Ivan Sergei." After one season, the show was cancelled. Lea Lea continued to play Krycek, who became a nemesis not only of Mulder and Scully but also of A.D. Skinner (Mitch Pileggi).
In the Hong Kong-Canadian film Lunch with Charles, Lea co-starred with Lau Ching-Wan, Theresa Lee, and Bif Naked.
Lea played Tom Foss, Kyle's tutor, on ABC Family's Kyle XY (26 episodes), and was one of the lead actors (playing Ethan McKaye) on the Canadian television series Whistler. He was also the series's associate producer. In 2007, he did not return to Whistler for its second season.
He has appeared in shows like NYPD Blue (3 episodes), Andromeda, Burn Notice, Sliders, Highlander: The Series (as Catherine Willows' boyfriend) and Men in Trees (ten episodes). Nicholas has also appeared in the ABC adaptation of the sci-fi series V. He is also a member of the Lyric School of Acting in Vancouver.
Lea appeared in the film Guido Superstar: The Rise of Guido, which was starring, produced, and directed by Silvio Pollio, including Lea, John Cassini, Terry Chen, and Michael Eklund.
