Neha Kakkar (born 6 June 1988) is an Indian playback singer.

She appeared on season 2 of Indian Idol in 2006 and was a judge on the tenth and eleventh seasons of the same show i.e. She appeared on Comedy Circus Ke Taansen in 2014 and 11.11 respectively.

She appeared on Zee TV as Judge Sa Re Ga Pa L'il Champs, and Meet Bros produced Neha-The Rock Star, her first album.

Early life

Kakkar was born in Rishikesh, India's state of Uttar Pradesh, on June 6, 1988 (now Uttarakhand). Kakkar and her family migrated to Delhi in the early 1990s to try her luck at singing. Kakkar, a 4-year-old boy, began appearing at local gatherings and religious functions. She and her brother, Tony Kakkar, moved to Mumbai in 2004. Kakkar auditioned for the second season of Indian Idol in 2006, but she was disqualified early in the program.

Personal life

Since 2014, Kakkar and actor Himansh Kohli were in a passionate liaison. They officially announced their marriage on national television in September 2018 and announced that they would marry soon. However, three months later, a Kakkar's Instagram post revealed that the couple broke up.

Rohanpreet Singh, a Punjabi singer, married Kakkar for the first time, and the two of them soon fell in love. They were married in a Gurdwara in New Delhi on October 24, 2020.

She appeared in the second season of the singing reality show Indian Idol, in which she was kicked early.

Meet Bros. Anjjan released her debut album Neha The Rockstar in 2008. During this time, she recorded for a music compilation named by her brother, Tony Kakkar, as Romeo Juliet. She and Sukhwinder Singh performed "Hai Rama" from Meerabai Not Out (2008), together with Sukhwinder Singh. She appeared in A.R. for the first year. Rahman's piece, "the theme song of Blue (2009), in which she provided the chorus vocals for the song. She then lent her voice to the title track of the Hindi-language soap opera Na Aana Is Des Laado (2009).

Kakkar made her screen debut in 2010 with Vidhi Kasliwal's film Isi Life Mein... In 2010, she appeared as a student in a film in which she appeared as a student. By performing a total of four tracks for Sandeep Chowta last year, she made her debut in both Kannada and Telugu music. She lent her voice to the title track of the Kannada film Thamassu and the song "Nodu Baare" alongside Master Saleem. In her first Filmfare Awards South nomination as the Best Female Playback Singer, the former actress was recognized.

"Botal Khol," Kakkar's first release of 2013 as a result of controversies, where the Central Board of Film Certification raised concerns over the song's lyrics, citing double meaning. This was followed by a Sachin–Jigar item number created for Ramaiya Vastavaya. "Jado Ki Jhappi" is the Japanese word for "Jadoo Ki Jhappi." Shefali Alvares appeared with Pritam for another item song "Dhating Nach" which was performed alongside Nakash Aziz and Shefali Alvarez.

With the introduction of three new songs, Kakkar's popularity has risen. Yo Honey Singh's film Yaariyan was the first release of the year. The pair collaborated again on "Manali Trance" from The Shaukeens, Bollywood's first trance number. In the same year, her first collaboration with Amit Trivedi, a wedding song titled "London Thumakda," was released in the same year, which received rave reviews from critics. On the occasion of Mother's Day, Kakkar shot and published a song for her mother, which attracted a warm reception from the audience.

"Ek Do Teen Chaar," Ek Paheli Leela's first release of 2015, was released. Kakkar's first release of 2015 was "Ek Do Teen Chaar," which was written, penned, and co-sung by Tony Kakkar. She then performed "Naughty No 1" and "Daaru Peeke Dance" for Barkhaa and Kuch Kuch Locha Hai, where Kakkar performed "Tu Isaq Mera" from Hate Story 3. Kakkar's first of many collaborations with Tanishk Bagchi culminated in the rehashing of several Bollywood songs in the coming years. "Badri Ki Dulhania" from Badrinath Ki Dulhania, their first film, starred Dev Negi, Ikka Singh, and Monali Thakur, with only three segments lifted from Teesri Kasam's 1966 masterpiece, "Chalat Musafir." The version became a hit among the community, and was included in the top ten most watched Indian videos on YouTube with over 500 million views. This was followed by another chart-buster by the pair, "Cheez Badi," a re-creation of the 1994-released Mohra song "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast" that received mixed reviews from critics. "Main Tera Boyfriend," a dance number from Raabta, was her next film release, and it was a reissue of a non-film track "Na Na Na Na Na." In the sixth season of the Indian television music competition, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs, she continued the trend. She performed two remake songs, co-composed by Sandeep Shirodkar and Anu Malik, and one original song written by Meet Bros. "Mehbooba" from Fukrey Returns, Mohammed Rafi's original version, came to an end this year.

"Chhote Peg" by Yo Honey Singh from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, a reimagining of the Anand Raj Anand-composition "Tote Tote Ho Gaya" from Bichhoo (2000), was Kakkar's first publication of 2018. Bagchi's recreation of "Aashiq Banaya Apne" was followed by Bagchi's inclusion in the Hate Story 4 soundtrack album, which was performed by Himesh Reshamiya and Shreya Ghoshal. The pair collaborated on five other projects, from which "Dilbar" from Satyameva Jayate and "Aankh Maarey" from Simmba became popular with music listeners, with both songs achieving the top ten on YouTube and the former being the first Indian song to reach number three on the Billboard YouTube Music Chart. Kakkar performed a traditional-themed-contemporary Punjabi track "Bhangra Da Sajda" from Loveyatri, co-sung by Shashwat Sachdev, apart from delivering the folk pop song "Dholida" from Loveyatri alongside Udit Narayan and Palak Muchhal. The trend continued with the item number "Gali Gali" in the Hindi-dubbed version of Kannada film K.G.F. Chapter 1, which was included in the Hindi-dubbed version. In the tenth season of India's television music competition, Indian Idol, she appeared as a judge alongside Anu Malik and Vishal Dadlani.

"Chamma Chamma" was released in collaboration with Bagchi, while "Coca Cola Tu" from Luka Chuppi and "Hauli Hauli" from De De Pyaar Debuted on January 4, 2019. Vishal Mishra and Shekhar, the female version of "Ki Honda Pyaar" from Jabariya Jodi, as well as "The Hook Up Song" for the latter, which was well-received by critics. The trio of Kakkar, Bagchi, and the dancer Nora Fatehi reunited for two other chart-buster songs, "O Saki Saki" from Batla House and "Ek Toh Kum Zindagani" from Marjabaian, "Ek Toh Kum Zindagani" from Batla House. The former being a remake of Musafir film "Saaki," a film directed by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. Throughout the year, Kakkar sang of "Dheeme Dheeme," composed by Bagchi and the romantic love song "Tu Hi Yaar Mera" composed by Rochak Kohli.

Kakkar, primarily in collaboration with Tanishk Bagchi, became more popular with the movement of remaking old to new songs, resulting in several backlashes against the singer.
