Michael English (born April 12, 1962) is an American Christian singer and record producer.

He began as a member of his family's singing group and then a member of The Gaither Vocal Band.

He released eight studio albums during his solo career.

"Your Love Amazes Me," England's highest-charting solo album, debuted at No. 1. In 1996, the Adult Contemporary chart ranked tenth on the Adult Contemporary Chart.

Early years

Aubine and Grace English were raised in Kenansville, North Carolina, where they were raised by parents Aubine and Grace English. From 1972 to 1980, English appeared in his family's singing group, The Singing Samaritans. After graduating from high school, he joined The Singing Americans, where he shortened his name to Mike English and then returned to Michael. In 1982, he left the company and joined the Goodmans. He married his first wife Lisa Bailey and they had a child Megan who was born in late 1984. He worked with the Gospel Couriers for about six months before rejoining The Singing Americans. It was then that he had his first big success in southern gospel music with the live recording of "I Bowed on My Knees (And Cried, Holy)" as his signature song.

Despite the fact that one of the Goodmans had brought him the song to perform and record while he was still with them, the Singing Americans felt that the album had not progress as well as it had when he performed with the group. This inspired English to record the track with the group, bringing the song's biggest success.

Black and White, his last album with the Singing Americans, was one of their most well-known songs. It featured a single English on "Welcome To Heaven" after its departure in 1985 to join The Gaither Vocal Band as the group's new lead singer, replacing Gary McSpadden, who went to sing baritone. More people were introduced to the southern gospel style as a result of the change of groups. Bill Gaither, who came to prominence as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band, encouraged English people to pursue a solo career after coming to fame as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band. He signed his first solo recording deal with Warner Alliance in 1991, and is now playing lead in the Gaither Vocal Band.

Michael English, his debut effort, received two Dove Awards in 1992 for Male Vocalist and New Artist, respectively. Brown Bannister's first self-titled album was released in "Solid As The Rock," "Mary Did You Know" and "In Christ Alone"; he left the Gaither Vocal Band in 1994. In 1994, Michael was named GMA Male Vocalist of the Year. In addition to being named Male Vocalist of the Year, his album, "Holding Out Hope To You," was named Inspirational Song of the Year, and his 1994 album, "Hope," was named Best Newcomer of the Year.

The Christian singer from England came to a halt on May 6, 1994, just one week after the 25th GMA Dove Awards, where he had received four Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Marabeth Jordan, with whom he had an affair, was pregnant with his child, according to English. (Jordan performed with the group First Call; First Call and English had just concluded a tour for unwed mothers.) At the time, both English and Jordan were married to other people.

Warner Alliance coerced English to provide a public apology, but the brand later pulled him out. Warner ceased all promotions, marketing, which had stopped sales of English's albums, and Christian radio stations pulled English's songs off the air. He also received his Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association, which was also a recipient. England and his wife Lisa, who were married for 11 years and had a child, have divorced.

During his recovery period, English was with colleagues Ashley and Wynonna Judd, but did not perform gospel music for three years. In late 1994, English signed a record deal with Curb Records to produce mainstream pop music. When the song was performed in the 1994 film Silent Fall, a duet with Wynonna Judd named "Healing" (a song English had originally intended for his album "Hope") introduced English to a broader audience.

Freedom, a pop album released in September 1996 by England. "Your Love Amazes Me," the album's first single (a recap of country music singer John Berry's 1994 debut), peaked at No. 1. On the adult contemporary chart, tenth is number ten, but only at No. ten. The main chart shows that 105 people were 105 on the main chart.

His co-production for album projects by The Martins gained Southern Gospel Album of the Year at both the 1996 and 1997 Dove Awards. He also performed on several artists' Christian albums and demo projects, as well as demo work.

After promoter/historian Charles Waller reunited English with Ed Hill, Rick Strickland, Dwayne Burke, and Milton Smith as the Singing Americans in August 1996, a crowd of over 4,000 gospel enthusiasts at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion erupted. J. D. Sumner, as well as the Grand Ole Opry, has invited English to participate in the National Quartet Convention.

Curb Records released Gospel, a British singer and starring his own band with music he had performed in his concerts for many years. Jay Demarcus of Rascal Flatts, a long-time friend, co-produced this album. Also, Gary LeVox, Rascal Flatts' lead singer, performed background vocals. Bill Gaither invited English to attend a recording of Gaither Homecoming in March 1999. "Good News," "Harmony in the Heartland," and "What a Time" were among this taping's "Good News."

English singer Heaven to Earth, which was released by Curb Records in March 2000, was released by Curb Records. Premiering his album on Trinity Broadcasting Network's Praise the Lord, English shared a testimony of what God had brought him through and told him about his heroin use and subsequent recovery.

Marcie Stambaugh, a pastor's niece, married English in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 29, 2002. Isabella, the couple's name was given after his mother's, is the couple's only child.

In addition to touring, English's autobiography, The Pros Home, was published in April 2007.

The Gaither Vocal Band reformed in 2009, making it a quintet—singing lead.

On March 4, 2010, English Underwent Spinal column surgery. Marshall Hall came back to fill in for two months, and Reggie Smith filled in for one month while he was recovering. On August 1, 2010, English people performed with the vocal band for the first time in history.

In 2011, English was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.

In October 2013, it was announced that English will leave the Gaither Vocal Band to devote more time to his solo career. His resignation was immediate. At the 2013 Dove Awards, he was in his last appearance with the company, performing "Alpha and Omega." Since his release of The Best of Michael English from Gaither Vocal Band Reunion, Michael has appeared on numerous Gaither Vocal Band Reunion videos, a live album, and a compilation of Michael English songs.
