Chelsea 'in talks' with RB Salzburg's Christoph Freund as sporting director

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2022
Chelsea is in discussions with RB Salzburg's Christoph Freund regarding the club's vacant sporing director job. Owner Todd Boehly wants to bring a new name to the position, and he was part of the Stamford Bridge company that fired new manager Graham Potter. The Blues, who face Salzburg in Champions League action on Wednesday, have earmarked Freund, the Austrian team's chiefmind and a man who was able to offer Erling Haaland ahead of a number of other European clubs.

Chelsea is looking to purchase feeder clubs around Europe to support player growth.'

Chelsea is reported keen to establish a network of feeder clubs, similar to Premier League champions Manchester City. Todd Boehly, the Blues' new owner, is trying to restructure the club at Stamford Bridge, including the recruitment of younger players. Boehly and his board of directors have been investigating company models of other teams and one area that they have identified as a way to advance is spreading their scouting and development efforts throughout Europe and beyond.

Chelsea will continue with Graham Potter's appointment as a coach, as well as a complete rewrite of the club's key functions

ROB DRAPER - CHIEF FOOTBALL WRITER - The Chelsea boardroom debate on Monday was tense. There was a nagging doubt. Chelsea lost in their first Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb on the next day and will likely win. They may do well, it turns out. Thomas Tuchel had already been dismissed, but the decision had already been made to fire him. How would it look, the board pondered, to sack a manager after a decent, victorious start to the Champions League? They should not have been worried about being concerned. Chelsea continued in the same vein as they've all season, starting with the loss to Southampton and the encouraging victory over West Ham, where VAR was their saviour, and a 1-0 loss in Zagreb. The deed was complete the next morning, and yet another Chelsea manager was sent packing. At least he lasted 15 months after winning the Champions League seven months after winning the Club World Cup for the first time. Roberto Di Matteo made his Champions League debut in 2012 only six months after winning the Champions League.
