Michael Owen Bruce (born March 16, 1948) is an American rock musician best known as a member of Alice Cooper.
Early life
Michael Owen Bruce was born to Alvin and Ruth (Owen) Bruce. The Bruce and Owen families had migrated from Kansas to Arizona. Cherokee, Scottish, Irish, English, and Norman French are among the family's ancestry. Clarence Glenn Owen, Ruth's uncle, was a veteran of World War II and also a professional baseball player. "Blacky" Owen Owen was a nickname that stood for "Black." "Al" served in the military during the 1940s and Ruth performed on the radio and appeared on several TV shows in the United States. Functions. "Al" worked for The Coca-Cola Company after the war. Michael and his two brothers, David and Paul, attended North High School in Phoenix, Arizona.
Bruce began his professional music career in the mid-1960s. He got a kick out of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, as many young people of the time. Michael became a member of Mick Mashbir's band The Wildflowers and began learning lessons after being a member of The Trolls. Mashbir, as did future Alice Cooper drummer Neal Smith, and the band partied in a desert location. "A Man Like Myself," "On a Day Like Today," "More Than Me" and "Moving Along with the Sun," four songs were recorded by this group. Bear Family Records, a German-based independent record label that specializes in reissues, has since obtained the masters of those songs, according to Bruce.
Bruce was also a member of a short-lived group called Our Gang (which also included Bill Spooner), a student at North High School and later a member of The Tubes. They had no known recordings.
In 1966, Michael Tatum appeared in The Spiders, a Phoenix band led by Neal Smith, Dennis Dunaway, John Speer (replaced by Neal Smith) and Vince Furnier, all from area high schools. The VIP Club in Phoenix was one of the city's most popular venues. They changed the band's name to The Nazz in 1967, but they had to change it again in 1968 after a legal dispute regarding Todd Rundgren's band, Nazz. Alice Cooper, the company's new name, was Alice Cooper. On March 16, 1968, Michael's 20th birthday, they premiered the name at a performance in Santa Barbara, California.
