Mayssoun Azzam Life

Mayssoun Azzam (Arabic) (born 1973) is a Palestinian television presenter, broadcaster, and member of the College of Media & Mass Communication Advisory Board at the American University in the Emirates (AUE) and a humanitarian activist.

Mayssoun Azzam has been one of Egypt's most influential media personalities for more than a decade. Mayssoun Azzam has demonstrated a high degree of professionalism as a news presenter, current affairs program anchor, interviewer, and lecturer who has worked with the Dubai-based Al Arabiya news channel since its inception in 2003.

Among others, she has interviewed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubair, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates among others. In addition, she reported from Palestine's troubled West Bank, where she was embedded with international activists who were assisting Palestinian farmers in harvesting their olives and defending against the Jewish settlers' hostilities.

Al Arabiya was the media sponsor of the Palestinian first investment conference held in Bethlehem, and she was chosen to MC the inauguration, which featured keynote speakers such as President Mahmoud Abbas among others.

She produced eleven episodes about the challenges faced by pregnant women at work, despite being convinced of the importance of supporting women in all fields. She shattered the traditional image of Arab news presenters by revealing the ups and downs she suffered with as a working pregnant presenter.

Mayssoun was appointed as the Ambassador of Nescafe Red Mug (2010/11) to promote health benefits of coffee and debunk myths surrounding regular coffee drinking habits.

Her reputation as a highly respected media expert qualified her to teach at Mohammed Bin Rashid School for communication, a Dubai University (AUD), where she taught several courses, including Multi-platform Storytelling and Culture and Society, as well as Advanced Reporting.

Mayssoun Azzam is currently focusing on humanitarian causes. She is the principal anchor of a one-hour news bulletin that focuses on regional human interest stories ranging from the ordeal of refugees to the enslavement of children in war-torn nations. In addition to field reporting and an embedded reporter with the International Activists from a war zone in Palestine, she visited several refugee camps in Jordan and Yemen, where she carried out extensive coverage of the refugees' living conditions and sufferings.

The bulletin is broadcast in 1400 GMT on Sunday-Thursday and is quickly becoming one of the most watched news bulletins in different target markets, with rising viewership rates.

Mayssoun Azzam has aided the bulletin in addressing new thorny issues and arranged campaigns to assist the region's needy. Mayssoun Azzam is a key member of the team, assisting visitors, contacting visitors, and assisting international humanitarian aid organizations.

Her work in the humanitarian field received regional recognition. She was honoured by RNVDO, a Northern Iraqi governorate headquartered in Nineveh, as the representative of Nineveh Voluntary for IDPs in August 2019.

Mayssoun also appeared in many conferences as a moderator, such as Nato Foundation (2019 and 2021) and Beirut Institute, as well as a prominent speaker in many seminars, including the 12th International Conference of the Arab Women Educators in Zayed University, the Arab Satellite Channel Channels Conference in Jordan and a Arab Women Organization conference on the suffering of refugees in the regions.

Mayssoun anchored for three years, launching Mashahed wa Ara', a weekly talk show in Al Arabiya.

Mayssoun also contributed to a number of political and social papers that were published on AlArabiya.net.

Early life

Mayssoun Azzam was born in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to a Palestinian family. In 1948, her parents, Nawaf Azzam and Isaaf El-Youssef, moved from Palestine to Lebanon. Her father obtained a law degree from the Beirut Arab University. However, he was unable to practice law in Lebanon because labor laws barred Palestinians from most white-collar occupations. He served as a school administrator at Sidon's Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugees camp before transferring his family to the Persian Gulf region. Mayssoun grew up in Abu Dhabi, where she attended the Rosary School. She later obtained her bachelor's degree in Communication Arts, with a focus on journalism from Lebanese American University. Her master's degree was earned at the University of London, Birkbeck, majoring in Global Politics.
