Career

Urruti began his career in the youth at Newell's Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina, before being called to the senior squad in 2011. Urruti made his professional debut on May 14th, losing 3–0 to Racing Club in a Primera División, starting in a 3–0 loss. During his first season, he would make one more appearance.

Urruti's first goal for Newell's in a 2–2 draw with Club Olimpo on October 20, 2011. Newell's finished 18th in the table after finishing 1 goal from seven appearances in the 2011 Apertura season. Urruti joined the first team in 2012 during the Clausura season. Urruti earned a point against Estudiantes in the Clausura's first match on February 11th. He scored twice more in Newell's 1–0 victory over Argentinos Juniors in their next game. He scored in the 89th minute against Godoy Cruz on April 8th. Urruti closed the 2012 Clausura season with 6 goals in 19 appearances, assisting Newell's to a 6th place finish.

Former Newell's striker Ignaxio Scocco returned to the club on loan ahead of the 2012–13 season. Urruti made 14 appearances during the 2012 Torneo Inticial, but only one of them was a start, as Scocco's return to Urruti shortened Urruti's playing time. Urruti won by 21-0 over Belgrano on March 2, 2013, his first goal of the Torneo Final and first of the 2012–13 season as a whole. Urruti scored 5 goals in 14 appearances during the Torneo Final, assisting Newell's finish in last place and re-electing the 2013 Torneo Finalists. In the Superfinals, Newell's faced Torneo Inicial champions Vélez Sarsfield on June 29th. Urruti will make the bench, but Vélez Sarsfield will win 1–0 to become the 2012–13 Primera División champions. Urruti made 6 appearances in Copa Libertadores, where Newell's lost 3–2 on penalties to eventual champion Atlético Mineiro, the eventual champion. During the season, he appeared in the Copa Argentina twice.

Urruti joined MLS club Toronto FC on August 16th. In a 2–0 away loss to Columbus Crew on the next day, he made his club debut, defeating him as a second-half substitute for Robert Earnshaw.

Urruti was sold by Portland Timbers as a result of the 2013 season's most important asset allocation pick and first-round pick Bright Dike, a first-round 2015 MLS SuperDraft pick and allocation money. Urruti made his debut for Portland on September 14th, appearing as a substitute in a 1–1 draw with Chivas USA. In a 1–0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on September 29, he scored his first Timbers goal. Urruti ended the regular season with one goal from 5 appearances with Portland, assisting the Timbers in finishing second place in the Western Conference. Portland made two appearances in the playoffs, losing 5–2 on aggregate, with Portland reaching the conference finals.

Urruti scored his first goal of the 2014 season on April 5th in a 4–4 draw with Cascadia Cup foe Seattle Sounders. Urruti scored in the 94th minute to give Portland a 3–2 victory over D.C. United on May 3rd. He scored a brace on May 24th, giving the Timbers a 2–1 victory over the Columbus Crew. Urruti's 30 MLS regular season appearances brought to an end this season with 10 goals and two assists. However, the Timbers were unable to qualify for the playoffs, finishing 6th in the Western Conference, a point behind the Vancouver Whitecaps in the final position to qualify. Urruti made 4 appearances, scored 3 goals, and had 1 assist on the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League, but Portland did not progress out of the league.

Urruti scored his first goal of the 2015 season on April 4, 2015, assisting the Timbers in their 3–1 victory over FC Dallas. Portland defeated Washington, D.C. United on May 27th, who scored his only goal of the season on May 27 to give the Portland a 1–0 victory over Washington, D.C. United. Urruti scored in extra time on June 16th to help the Timbers beat Seattle 3–1 in a U.S. Open Cup match. He got off to a good start in Portland's next cup match, a 2–0 loss to Real Salt Lake. Urruti had a goal and an assist as the Timbers defeated the LA Galaxy 5–2 on October 18th. He ended the regular season with 4 goals and 3 assists from 30 appearances, leading Portland to finish third in the Western Conference. Urruti came off the bench and scored in the 118th minute to level the score at 2–2 with Sporting Kansas City, bringing the game to a penalty shootout in the Timber's first game of the playoffs. Urruti converted his penalty kick to help Portland beat the shootout 7–6. In the final, the Timbers will face the Columbus Crew 2–1 in the playoffs, and he will make a further 4 substitute appearances in the playoffs.

Portland turned down Urruti's 2016 contract option following the 2015 season.

FC Dallas selected Urruti as the first pick of the 2015 MLS Re-Entry Draft on December 11, 2015. Urruti made his Dallas debut in the 2016 season's first match, scoring once against the Philadelphia Union in a 2–0 victory on March 6th. In a 2–0 victory over the Montreal Impact on 19 March, he scored his second goal for Dallas. Urruti made it 3 goals in four games after scoring in a 3–0 victory over D.C. United on March 26. He scored once in Dallas to put the San Jose Earthquakes 1–0 on 8 July. Urruti defeated the Chicago Fire 3–1 in Dallas' next match. Urruti scored for the third straight MLS match on July 31 to help Dallas defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2–0. On August 13, he made it four straight MLS games with a goal, scoring once in a 2–2 draw with Sporting Kansas City. Urruti finished the regular season with 30 appearances, 9 goals, and 4 assists, winning Dallas the Supporters' Shield for the most points during the regular season. Urruti started in both legs and scored in the second round in Dallas' playoff matchup with the Seattle Sounders, but Dallas lost 4–2 on aggregate. During the 2016 season, Urruti also helped Dallas have a memorable run in the United States Open Cup. Dallas took the Denver Rapids 2–1 on June 29th, giving Dallas a 2–1 victory over the Colorado Rapids. Dallas defeated the New England Revolution 4–2 in the final on September 13th, with Urruti scoring twice twice. Urruti made one appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage from 2016–17.

Dallas began the 2017 MLS season on March 4th with a 2–1 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy, with Urruti scoring once in the game. On 18 March, he scored twice to lead Dallas 2-0 over New England in a 2–1 victory over New England, earning him the MLS Player of the Week award. Dallas defeated Real Salt Lake 3–0 on May 6th, Urruti recorded another brace. He scored in four straight games between the 17th of June and the fourth of July. Urruti had 12 goals and 5 assists from 32 appearances in the regular season. Dallas finished 7th in the Western Conference and missed out on the playoffs despite a fruitful season. Urruti also appeared in the knockout stage of the 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League, where Dallas advanced to the semifinals, losing 4–3 on aggregate to Pachuca.

With 2018 CONCACAF Champions League play, Dallas and Urruti began the 2018 season. Tauro, Urruti started both legs and scored once, but Tauro advanced on away goals after a 3–3 aggregate score. Urruti scored his first MLS goal of the season on March 18th in a 3–0 victory over Seattle. He started a new deal with Dallas in March. Urruti scored in four straight games between 5 May and May. On September 29, he scored a goal and an assist against San Jose, but Dallas would lose the match 4–3. He finished the regular season with 33 appearances, 8 goals, and 11 assists, helping Dallas return to the playoffs after finishing fourth in the Western Conference. Urruti will kick off Dallas' first round match against the Portland Timbers, but Dallas will lose 2–1.

Urruti was traded to the Montreal Impact in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and $75,000 in Targeted Allocation Funds on December 9, 2018. Urruti has signed a new three-year contract with a team option for the 2022 season ahead of the 2019 season. Urruti made his Impact debut against the San Jose Earthquakes on March 2nd, 2019. On March 16, he registered his first assist since joining Montreal, leading the Impact to a 3-1 victory over Orlando City. Urruti scored his first goal for Montreal on May 8 and also contributed to the Impact's 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls. He had 4 goals and six assists from 31 appearances during the regular season. After finishing 9th in the Eastern Conference, the Impact as a team had a rough MLS season, losing out on the playoffs. Montreal enjoyed a fruitful cup run this season, with Urruti appearing in all six games as the Impact claimed the 2019 Canadian Championship, defeating Toronto FC in the final 3–1 on penalties after playing to a 1–1 aggregate score.

Urruti won by a 2–1 victory over Montreal in their first game of the MLS season on February 29, 2020. He scored twice on Friday to give the Impact a 2–2 draw with FC Dallas. Following matchweek's matchweek 2, the MLS season was postponed for four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the MLS is Back Tournament in July, the MLS is Back Tournament is back to action, with games in the group stage counting as regular season matches. Urruti began all three group stage games to help Montreal get to the knockout round. He came off the bench in their 0–0 loss in their knockout round match against Orlando City. Urruti defeated Inter Miami 2–1 in the 80th minute on October 17th, giving the Impact a 2–1 victory. Urruti's season came to an end with 15 appearances (out of a possible 23), 5 goals, and 2 assists, assisting the Impact in the playoffs. He did not appear in Montreal's only playoff game, a 2–1 loss to New England. Urruti underwent knee surgery in November 2020.

Urruti was traded to the Houston Dynamo along with a 2021 international roster slot in exchange for Alja's 2nd round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. In the first match of the season, he made his Dynamo debut on April 16th, scoring once to put Houston up by 2–1 over the San Jose Earthquakes. Urruti started the season off with a bang in the first 11 games, scoring 6 goals in the first 11 games. He then scored just once in his final 19 appearances. He had his first goal of the season on October 16 in a 2–1 victory over the Seattle Sounders, his first goal in over three months. Urruti finished last season with 7 goals and 4 assists in 30 appearances, but not enough to qualify for the playoffs. Following the season, his employment choice was terminated.

Urruti joined Austin FC on a two-year deal with an additional one-year option on December 28.
