Erik Lamela Life

Erik Manuel Lamela Cordero (born 4 March 1992) is an Argentine professional footballer who competes as an attacking midfielder or winger for La Liga's Sevilla and the Argentina national team.

Lamela started his career at River Plate and then moved to Roma in 2011 for the first €12 million. He joined Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £25.8 million after two seasons in Serie A. He has been a full international since 2011, and he was part of Argentina's team, which finished runners-up in both the 2015 and 2016 Copa América editions.

Early life

Lamela was born in 1992 in Miriam and José Lamela, Argentina's northern suburb. His family gave him the nickname "Coco." Barcelona reportedly offered Lamela and his family $160,000 USD a year, as well as a house and employment for his parents, to move to Barcelona in a similar arrangement to the one that saw Lionel Messi move to Spain as a youth. A Trans World Sport film crew travelled to Argentina in 2004 to interview a 12-year-old Lamela, who was already making headlines after scoring 120 goals for River Plate's youth team. In the video, Lamela says he wishes to follow in Diego Maradona's footsteps and win a World Cup for Argentina.

Personal life

Sofia Herrero, Lamela's long-serving partner. Tobias, born in 2017, and Thiago, born in 2020, are the couple's two sons.

Erik Lamela Career

Club career

In a game against Tigre in the 2009 Clausura tournament, Lamela made his first-team debut for River Plate on June 14, 2009. On the 80th minute, he took the field, replacing Robert Flores. In a match against Colón for the Apertura tournament, Lamela scored his first goal for River on December 5, 2010. In the final fixture of that Apertura, he scored his second goal against Lanca, leading River to victory 4–2.

During the 2010–11 Argentine Primera División season, the midfielder was a regular starter for River, appearing in 34 games and scoring four goals. He aided his team in finishing in a sixth position overall, which would have qualified them for the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. River was relegated after losing a playoff with Belgrano due to the relegation system that accounts for a team's last three seasons.

Lamela joined Roma of Italy in Serie A for a fee of €12 million, plus €2 million in bonuses, which was triggered following his 20th club appearance on August 6th. Roma also paid an additional €3.2 million to Orel B.V., a plus 10% increase in the case of a player who later sold more than €12 million — and €3.06 million in the form of taxes to Argentina's government. In the first season, Lamela earned €1.8 million in gross, but the amount will rise by €350,000 on 1 July 2012 (€2.5 million) and 2015 (€2.85 million). He scored his first goal in Serie A against Palermo on October 23, 2011. He scored goals against Lecce, Novara, and Cesena later this year. With six goals in 31 games in all competitions, Lamela concluded his first season at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lamela's debut continued the 2012–13 season with his first goal of the season against Bologna on September 16, 2012. Lamela had a great run in October and early November, scoring seven goals in six games, including a brace against Udinese in a 3–2 home loss and goals against Atalanta, Genoa, Parma, and Palermo. In the Derby della Capitale against Lazio, he also scored a goal. He returned to action against Milan in a 4–2 victory on December 22nd after nearly a month out with an ankle ligament injury.

Lamela continued to score 15 times in 33 games, making him joint-fifth in Serie A and second to striker Pablo Osvaldo (16 goals) at Roma. Lamela and Roma's season ended in ache, with their loss to Rome rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia final and finishing sixth in Serie A, meaning Roma would not play European football for the second time in a row.

Tottenham Hotspur's transfer of Lamela from Roma for a fee of up to £4.2 million in bonus payments was concluded on August 30, 2013. Lamela's fee made him the club's most expensive player in history, smashing two previous records, first for Paulinho and then Roberto Soldado.

In a 1–0 loss at Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on September 1st, Lamela made his Tottenham debut as a 75th-minute replacement in a 1–0 loss to Tottenham in a 1–0 loss at the Emirates Stadium. He made his first appearance for Tottenham Hotspur against Troms, Illinois in the UEFA Europa League on September 19th, assassinating Jermain Defoe for Tottenham's opening goal in a 3–0 win at White Hart Lane in the UEFA Europa League. After appearing as a replacement in Tottenham's 1–0 victory at Cardiff City on September 22, he contributed to Paulinho's stoppage-time winning goal.

"He knows he isn't producing half of what he should be able to produce," Tottenham boss André Villas-Boas said of his player on October 29th, "he acknowledges that he can't produce half of what he should produce." In a 2–1 Europa League win over Sheriff Tiraspol on Saturday, Lamela scored his first goal for the club. Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester City 6–0, giving him his first appearance in the Premier League. In April 2014, his season was halted due to a back injury.

Lamela made a regular starter under new Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He was named in the starting lineup for the 2014–15 Premier League season against West Ham United, his first appearance of 2014. In a 4–0 victory over Queens Park Rangers three days later, he regained his new manager's faith in the next two games, first coming off the bench twice and then supporting twice more.

In a 5–1 victory over Greek club Asteras Tripoli in the Europa League, Lamela scored his first goals of the season on October 23rd, a brace. His first goal was a rabona-style blast from outside the region, with the BBC lauding the goal as "world-class" and ITV's rating as "world-class." This goal will be referred to as the Europa League'Goal of the Season' later this year. In a 2–1 victory over Burnley at White Hart Lane on December 20, his first Premier League goal was scored.

Lamela played in the League Cup final on March 1, 2015, starting off the bench in the 71st minute as Tottenham lost 2–0 to Chelsea.

Lamela returned to action in the first two Premier League goals, six in all competitions. However, with a total of ten in all competitions, he was the team's top assister.

In Pochettino's 2015–16 season, Lamela continued to be a key player, leading the team to a club-record third-place finish in the Premier League.

In the group stages of the UEFA Europa League, Lamela will be a natural performer. In a 3–1 victory over Qaraba FK on September 17, 2015, his first goal of the season came in. He scored away against Monaco on October 1st. In the reverse fixture, he scored a hattrick, the first of his professional career, on December 10th.

In a 4–1 home win over Manchester City on September 26, Lamela scored his first Premier League goal of the season. He had five Premier League goals this season, his highest total figure to date.

In a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park on the first day of the 2016-17 season, Lamela scored with a second half header. However, a hip injury in late October left him unable to participate for a long time and ended his season.

Lamela played in the Premier League away game against Leicester on November 28, 2017, as a substitute after more than a year out due to a hip injury that necessitated two operations. He scored in Spurs' only goal, but the game was a 2–1 loss. In a 2–0 home win over Brighton on December 13, 2017, he continued his good start to the season. In the second round replay of the FA Cup, he scored his first goal of the season on 2–0 victory over Newport County on February 7th.

Lamela agreed to a new four-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur on July 20, 2018.

Lamela scored his first goal of the 2018-19 season after being brought on as a replacement in the game against Liverpool, where Spurs lost 21-01. In the upcoming league match against Brighton, he scored twice, as well as another goal against Watford. Lamela scored Tottenham's second goal in a 4–2 loss at home to Barcelona in the 2018-19 Champions League group stage, marking the 8,000th goal in the Champions League's history. In the away match against West Ham United, he got his first league start of the season, scoring the only goal that resulted in a 1–0 victory. He was an ineffective substitute in the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final, in which Spurs lost 2–0 to Liverpool.

On Saturday, Lamela scored his first goal of the 2019-20 season against Manchester City. He played his first assist of the season in the same match, setting up Lucas Moura's goal and assisting Tottenham to a 2–2 away draw.

In the Carabao Cup quarterfinals against Chelsea, Lamela was a starter. After a 1–1 draw, he equalized with his first goal of the season and scored his penalty in the 5–4 penalty shootout win. He was suspended from attending a Christmas party and was left off the team for a number of games in January 2021. Lamela came off the bench and scored a rabona to help Spurs take the lead in the North London derby, but Spurs were then denied a second yellow card, and Spurs lost 2–1. Match of the Day selected the goal as the Season's Goal. The goal was also named as the best goal of the year in the 2021 FIFA Puskás Award.

In a swap for Bryan Gil, Lamela signed for Sevilla on July 26, 2021. In a 3–0 victory over Rayo Vallecano, he scored two goals on his La Liga debut.

After a two-year absence, Lamela was recalled to Argentina's national team in November 2018.

Fiorentina are keen to make a play change for Tottenham winger Bryan Gil, who has been playing in the Premier League for the first time this season

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 17, 2024
Fiorentina is keen on a contract for Spurs winger Bryan Gil, who appeared in the window early, with the Spaniard struggling to find a home under Ange Postecoglou. Gil arrived in north London in a £21 million contract, plus Erik Lamela from Sevilla 2021, but has found it impossible to guarantee himself of game time under a new line of bosses - and has been sent out on loan twice. He was sent to Valencia in 2022 before returning to Sevilla on loan last year before returning to the Spurs squad in search of a new start under Postecoglou.

Tottenham 1-4 Chelsea is up for second in the Premier League's CRAZIEST games: with Arsenal's 8-2 humbling, the Battle of the Bridge, and Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle... but where does the Premier League place it among the top ten?

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 7, 2023
Chelsea's 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur had just about everything you could want from a football match. Six goals were blocked out, five goals were scored, two red cards, seven yellow cards, and a team was tasked with nine men and leaving plenty of gaps in behind, with six men on the field and leaving plenty of holes open. It was an end to an epic for the neutrals, and it should rank as one of the most bonkers games in the English top flight.
