Mary Fickett Life

Mary Fickett (May 23, 1928 – September 8, 2011) was an American actress best known for her appearances in The Nurses, The Edge of Night (1961), and as Sally Smith (1961), as Dr. Katherine Lovell (1967–68) and as Ruth Parker Brent Martin #1 on All My Children (1970–2000).

Personal life

Fickett had two children from her three marriages. Allen Fristoe (a daytime television producer) was her third and final marriage from June 1979 to his death in 2008.

Early life and career

Fickett was born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Bronxville, a suburb of New York City. She enrolled in Wheaton College in Massachusetts and made her theatrical debut on Cape Cod in 1946. She made her Broadway debut in 1989 in I Know My Love, a comedy starring Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Fickett started her acting career at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City under Sanford Meisner, and later began working on "Television Theatre" projects like Kraft Television Theatre in the 1950s. Man on Fire, Bing Crosby's debut feature film, was released in 1957. In 1958, she was nominated as the Best Featured Actress in a Play for her appearance as Eleanor Roosevelt in Sunrise at Campobello, opposite Ralph Bellamy.

She appeared in Calendar, a forerunner to CBS' The Early Show, in the 1960s, and she appeared alongside host Harry Reasoner.
