She is best known for her appearance on The CW's post-apocalyptic science fiction television series The 100 (2014–present).
Early life
Avgeropoulos was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Greek parents on June 17, 1986. She grew up fishing, hunting, and camping, spending the majority of her free time outdoors. When she was 16, she started playing drums. She then moved to Europe after studying broadcast journalism for two years in her hometown. She returned to Canada and settled in Vancouver several months later. She underwent surgery to remove a large tumor from her chest and throat at the age of 20, and her vocal cords were removed and inserted back in. Her voice was harmed by this procedure.
Personal life
Avgeropoulos was involved in a domestic violence case when she and her boyfriend reportedly began arguing in a car on the Ventura Freeway shortly after midnight on August 5, 2018. According to the District Attorney's Office, Avgeropoulos was on new medication mixed with alcohol, and was accused of striking him repeatedly in the head, neck, and arm, resulting in minor injuries. She was later charged with domestic assault. Avgeropoulos' boyfriend requested that the charges be dismissed, but she did not pose a threat. With all charges dismissed, the case was formally dismissed, indicating that there was no intent on harm on Avgeropoulos' behalf but rather "an adverse reaction to drugs that triggered the outburst."
She appeared on stage with American actress Taylor Lautner from 2013 to 2015.
Career
One of her companions called her to a casting call in Vancouver, where she was frantically looking for drummers. A talent agent recognized her abilities and invited her to appear in various national commercials. Director Chris Columbus caught her interest. Avgeropoulos was hired by Avgeropoulos for I Love You, Beth Cooper, her first film role. Since being in the film, she has had the opportunity to appear in more films, television shows, and magazines.
In 2010, Avgeropoulos was cast as Kim Rhodes in the film Hunt to Kill, which became her first appearance.
After being cast for a regular role in The CW's Cult, Avgeropoulos made her break out in television early in 2013. However, the series was unable to attracted viewers, and after episode 7, the show was cancelled. The remaining six episodes of the series were released later this summer.
The CW cast her as one of the main characters in their latest sci-fi film The 100, not long after the show ended, to portray Octavia Blake.
