Manuel García Life

Manuel Garca (Arica, 1970) is a Chilean singer-songwriter and guitarist.

He has received numerous awards and twice been named in the Chilean National Music Prize (in 2008 and 2012).

Early life

Garca studied History and Geography Education at the University of Tarapacá in Arica and then moved to Santiago, Chile, in 1994 to study professional guitar performance ("interpretación superior en guitarra") at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile with fellow musician Luis Orlandini. He formed Coré in 1995 (which also included former members of Chilean band Inti Illimani). However, he left Coré in 1997 and formed his own band Mecánica Popular with Diego lvarez, Marco Chávez, and fellow Coré member Mario Villalobos.

Manuel García Career

Musical career

Mecánica Popular mixed rock and trova styles and were inspired by "nueva canciones chilena," trova, rock, and even poetry. They released three studio albums between 1999 and 2003, and now, although officially disbanded, they still support Manuel Garca in his solo appearances.

Garca has been active on several solo projects since 2003, one of which was a film about Argentinian musician Atahualpa Yupanqui (2003). He was invited to open Mercat de Msica Viva de Vic in Barcelona, Spain, the same year.

In 2005, he released Pánico (Panic), a collection of two members of Mecánica Popular, Christian Bravo y Diego lvarez. In national Chilean media, the album has received positive feedback.

Garca's second solo album, Témpera, was released in 2008 with a sound closer to trova and rock, as well as references to Violeta Parra and Atahualpa Yupanqui. Chinoy, a Chilean singer with whom he has appeared on several occasions, recalls his raw guitar sound.

S/T (2010), his third album. Its electric sound (including guitar solos) has influenced a variety of styles, although it is regarded as a simpler collection without the elaborate arrangements seen in the previous two.

Acuario, his best-known record, shocked fans with electronic sounds that sometimes recall Gepe or Javiera Mena. Acuario has been dubbed a well-exemplished tribute to Garca's signature style, but it hasn't lost the ferocious in his lyrics.

Manuel Garcia is one of the third edition of Lollapalooza Chile, which took place in Santiago in April 2013.
