Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. (born August 11, 1974) is an American jazz musician from Logan County, West Virginia.

He has received national attention for winning the sixth season of the NBC reality show America's Got Talent.

Early Life

Murphy dropped out of high school in his 11th grade year, and after 20 years he fumbled between different careers in Detroit, Michigan, and West Virginia, he suffered financially. Landau's house was ransacked in 2010 before he was seen on television, causing him to audition for America's Got Talent in the only clothes he owned, according to him.

Career

Murphy signed to Sony Records and Columbia Records and then released his first album That's Life on November 21, 2011. The album debuted at No. 1 on the charts, and it is a huge success. 34 on the Billboard 200, which sold 28,000 copies, then fell to No. 34, then No. The next week is forecast at 41. It debuted at number one on Billboard's jazz charts and then climbed to No. 2 spot. Amazon.com has ranked 1 in the Jazz category. The album had already sold 156,000 copies by May 2017.

Many have compared Murphy's vocals and phrasing to that of Frank Sinatra, a singer he has always admired. Many of That's Life's tracks are Sinatra standards. "I can bring back some happy memories for a lot of music enthusiasts, especially older people," Murphy said of the album. And I hope I can make new memories for generations to come."

That's Life was produced by Steve Tyrell, himself an aficionado of Sinatra's music.

Murphy headlined a show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas as part of his AGT award. The Apollo Theater in New York, the DTE Energy Center in Detroit, and The Temptations appear at the West Virginia and California State Fairs, a Super Bowl appearance, a televised appearance at The Hollywood Christmas Parade, and a number of sold-out headlining shows around the country (many supporting local charities). Among other things, The Today Show, Anderson Cooper, The View, The Talk, The Wendy Williams Show, Fox and Friends, CNN, The Walter Williams Show, The Tom Joyner Show, Scott and Todd, and Good Day Los Angeles were among others.

He has performed the national anthem at Madison Square Garden, WVU's Mountaineer Field, before a match between West Virginia University and University, as well as other public performances.

In 2017, he continues to give concerts

Landau obtained his high school diploma during the COVID-19 pandemic and now advocates for adult education in the state of West Virginia as part of the West Virginia Department of Education's "It's Never Too Late to Graduate" campaign. Landau continues to promote adult education by providing the official Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. In Logan, West Virginia, he received a scholarship at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

Landau has continued to host a number of charity functions around the state of West Virginia after his time on America's Got Talent. Landau was included in the Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Americans list in 2014.
