Kwesta Life

Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi (born 11 August 1988), better known by his stage name Kwesta, is a South African rapper and songwriter.

He was born in Katlehong, Gauteng, where the township also known as K-One.

He is currently signed to Rap Lyf, a non-profit and media business, with co-founder Kid X. DaKAR II, his third studio album, was released on February 26, 2016.

Life and career

Kwesta attended Phumlani Secondary School in Katlehong for three years, then Alafang Secondary School.

During his high school years, he developed an interest in poetry and received positive feedback and encouragement from fellow students and teachers.

In 2003, Kwesta became part of the group The Ghetto Fellas, later known as The Juveniylz. After two years of existence, the company was disbanded.

After the company's disbandment, Kwesta reached an agreement with Africa's Most Southern Record Company for the use of their studios. Kwesta was also involved in contests and events to raise money for his brand during this period. He competed in the Month's Rap Activity Jam MC of the Month competition. He won the Shiz Niz Freestyle Kings Special on ETV. In addition, he appeared at The Rand Show, Miss Confidence Exhibition, and The Durban Beach Festival.

At the age of 16, the rapper dropped out of high school. He begged his mother to give him the taxi fare to get to Buttabing Entertainment's headquarters, which prompted him to do so. Since being introduced to the record label's roster early in his career, he was able to begin his new role.

In 2007, Kwesta earned a judging gig on the Sprite Hip Hoop Tour as well as a a section on The Ventilation Street Tape. He was also a member of The Nokia Defend Your Street campaign, where he collaborated with other musicians to create the theme song.

Kwesta also released his debut single Sharp Fede last year. In a joint project with DJ C-Live, he later released a mixtape.

In 2010, Kwesta was one of the few selected Brand SA Ambassadors in the country. He appeared at the national roadshows held before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was held in South Africa. On the Everywhere You Go anthem for MTN, Kwesta appeared alongside Kelly Rowland, Jozi, and 2Face among other artists. He also appeared at the 2010 FIFA World Cup closing ceremonies.

Special Rekwest, Kwesta's first studio album, was released in September 2010. Babhemi, Flash It, Stomp, and Pump It was among the album's hit singles.

Flava was paid a synch-deal with DStv and was featured in the Loeries TV's 2011, ad campaign.

Pump It was sent via synch with DStv and Redds.

Stomp was one of the soundtracks to Death Race 3, an American action film.

With the success of the album, Kwesta became South Africa's first rapper to have seven songs on multiple radio charts in the same year. In 2011, Special Rekwest received SAMA awards for Best Newcomer and Best Rap Album.

Kwesta's second studio album, DaKAR (Da King of Afrikan Rap), was released on November 25, 2013. During its debut, the album debuted third on the South African iTunes Hip-Hop Charts.

In 2016, Kwesta released DaKAR II, his third studio album. Cassper Nyovest was the protagonist of Naked's launch on January 18, 2016.

The single "Ngud" received a nomination for the Year of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards. Wale, an American rapper, was featured on his single "Spirit" in early October 2017. Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) certified the album platinum (RiSA).

The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) awarded DaKAR II a 7-Platinum on April 26, 2018.

His album "Fire In The Ghetto" starring Troublle was unveiled in March 2021 as the album's lead single. Pre-orders were released in early April 2021.

Kwesta's fourth studio album, titled g.o.d guluva [acronym for "ghost of dakar"), was released on April 30. Nelson Makamo, the famous photographer, created the cover art. Thabsie, Focalistic, TLT, Yanga Chief, K.O. were among the album's highlights. The album reached its high point at No. 1. 4 in South Africa's Top 100 Albums and received mostly positive feedback from music critics.

His single "Njandini" received the award for the best Best Kwaito song at the 2021 Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards.
