Musical career

Sean demonstrated his rhyming skills on a regular basis as part of a youth competition hosted by Detroit hip-hop station WHTD. Kanye West was doing a radio interview at 102.FM in 2005. Sean went to the station to speak with West and perform some freestyle after hearing about this. Initially, West was hesitant to hear him, but Sean 16 bars was given to rap for him. West loved his freestyle, according to Big Sean: "We arrived at the radio station's entrance, and we stopped in the middle of the doorway." He starts staring at me and bobbing his head. Sean left West his demo tape after the freestyle. West has been signed by Big Sean to GOOD Music two years ago. Sean has cited West, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., and J Dilla as his influences.

Big Sean's first official mixtape, The Mixtape, was released on September 30, 2007. His hit single, "Getcha Some," created by WrighTrax captured media interest, resulting in articles in The Source and the Detroit Metro Times. He also directed a music video for "Getcha Some," which was also directed by Hype Williams. On April 16, 2009, Sean launched UKNOWBIGSEAN, Mick Boogie's second mixtape. "Million Dollars," "Getcha Some," and "Supa Dupa" were among the songs included in the magazine. There are 30 tracks on this mixtape. On April 30, 2010, an unauthorised leak of Drake's "Made" as a student appeared on the internet made its way into the media. Big Sean expressed his displeasure with the leak in a Yahoo! Interview on May 1, calling it an unfinished version both musically and lyrically. Big Sean's official Facebook page announced that his debut album titled 'Really Famous & Consequence's Conscious will be released on September 14, 2010. Big Sean tweeted on August 31, that the album was not coming out on the day but that it would be released sometime in 2011.

Sean talked about Kanye West and No I.D. in an interview on Conspiracy Worldwide Radio. Big Sean had already started working on his third album as a result of his new love a month before the unveiling of Hall of Fame.
