Kunichi Nomura (born April 10, 1974) is a Japanese writer, actor, radio host, book editor, interior designer, and composer from Tokyo, Japan.

Early life

Kun's mother, Kouko Nomura, is a food writer, and his sister, Yuri Nomura, is a chef and restaurateur. Fumio Nomura, a late journalist, was his devoted grandfather on his father's side.

Kun started attending Gakushuin kindergarten at the age of six and went on to spend the majority of his school years in Gakushuin before graduating high school in 1992. He spent a year in Texas studying abroad. He enrolled in Keio University's Faculty of Public Administration, but he spent the majority of his junior and senior years backpacking in Asia and Europe.

Kun opened Sputnik at Tsujid Kaigan in 1999, which he ran until 2005. Kun started the beach café on his return to Japan from his long travels. Kun purchased a double-decker bus from London in 2004 and rode the southern tip of Japan, being inspired by The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and Ken Kesey's Further bus ride in the mid-60s.

Kun's book Sputnik: Whole Life Catalogue, a series of interviews with 86 artists from around the world, focusing on their outlook on life and work. Kun's career as a freelance magazine writer and editor for a number of major publications, covering a variety of topics including subculture, fashion, film, music, and photography began with this book. During this period, he talked to over a hundred experts, including Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, Gus Van Sant, Jonathan Ive, Matthew Hutten, Richard Hutten, Ken Kesey, Haruki Murakami, Raymond Pettibon, and Barry McGee.

Kun founded Tripster Inc., a full service interior design firm that mainly designs office, stores, and restaurants, but the company also took on a variety of other projects, including a Bruce Weber photography exhibition, a GAP campaign tour, advising on Beams Japan's catalogs, and designing event spaces for Uniqlo and Nike. Around this time, Kun began arranging music events with performers including Kenji Takimi, The Avalanches, DJ Milo, 2 Many DJs, Yamantaka Eye of Boredoms, and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy.

Kun was the artistic director of subculture magazine Studio Voice from 2015 to 2017, and he stayed on the position until 2017.

Kun has appeared in numerous high-profile films, including Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation and Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel and Isle of Dogs. Kun is listed as a writer and casting director on both directions, as well as voicing Mayor Kobayashi.

Kun has been hosting Antenna Visitors on J-Wave, mainly sharing his experiences from his travels and performing an eclectic mix of music to go with his stories.

Jason Schwartzman has been cast in another one of Wes Anderson's films once more. The pair have worked together on several occasions over the past two decades, including on "Rushmore," "Fantastic Mr. Fox," and "Moonrise Kingdom." Schwartzman is now starring in Anderson's latest film, "Asteroid City," which premiered on June 16th. The period film, which takes place in the 1950s, follows a group of gifted students and their parents who visit a desert town for the annual Junior Stargazer Convention. They share a mysterious astronomical event together during their stay. Augie Steenbeck, whose son, Woodrow (Jake Ryan), is a Junior Stargazer champion, is a war photographer. Scarlett Johansson plays Midge Campbell; Stanley Zak as Augie's father-in-law, Stanley Zak; Jeffrey Wright as the convention's host; and Tilda Swinton as scientist Dr. Hickenlooper.
