Kim Shattuck Career

Life and career

Kimberly Dianne Shattuck was born on July 17, 1963, in Long Beach, California, daughter of Kent and Betty (née Hess) Shattuck. Kristen, her siblings, brother, Kirk, and sister, were all raised in Orange County, as well as her sister, Kristen. She began playing guitar while attending Orange Coast College, where she was studying photography.

Shattuck performed bass and sang backing vocals for the Pandoras from 1985 to 1990. Melanie Valiant, a 1991 Muffs veteran who played guitar and took lead vocals, formed the Muffs in Los Angeles with fellow Pandoras Melanie Vazn. The band remained active over the next two decades, releasing seven albums between 1993 and 2019.

Shattuck has participated in a number of other musical projects in addition to her Pandora and Muffs duties. She appeared on numerous White Flag recordings in the early 1990s and occasionally appeared with the band live. She appeared on the album "Punk in Drublic" and "I'll Always Remember You (That Way)," as well as on a Bowling for Soup song, "I Can Remember You (That Way). She also performed on the album "This Friend of Mine" by Kepi Ghoulie on the album American Gothic and The Dollyrots, which also included vocals for the song "Some Girls" on the album A Little Messed Up. Dr. Shattuck, a character on Mr. Show (HBO, 1995-1999), is a character on Shattuck. Following the departure of original member Kim Deal's resignation, Shattuck joined the Pixies for their fall 2013 European tour, but was released at the end of the tour in late November 2013. She recorded a six-song EP with Valiant and Palmyra Delran called The Coolies, which also included a special appearance by Stevie Van Zandt on theremin shortly before her death.

Shattuck appeared in many studio and live reunions of the Pandoras from 2014 to 2018. Despite playing bass and singing backing vocals in the Pandoras, she was the leading singer and guitarist for these reunions due to the death of original Pandora lead singer and guitarist Paula Pierce in 1991.
