Kim Kwang-seok Life

Kim Kwang-seok (January 22, 1964 – January 6, 1996), a South Korean folk rock singer, was a popular and influential South Korean folk rock musician.

He made his debut in 1987 as a member of Noraereul Channeun Saramdeul, an anti-violent folk group.

He rose to fame as a member of the folk band Dongmulwon, which debuted in 1988.

He released his first solo album in 1989, reflecting people's agony and annoyance at a time when the country was still suffering in its early stages of democracy after rapid industrialization. He has sold over 5 million albums, an astonishing number for a South Korean musician. He committed suicide by hanging himself.

Kim Kwang-seok Career

Solo career

Kim Kwang-seok's debut in 1989 was inspired by Dongmulwon's unexpected popularity. In 1991 and 1992, he released two albums, 'Love Has Gone' () and 'Song of My Life (). Unlike many other entertainers, he made his name by performing at concerts alongside the release of new albums rather than appearing in a television music show. "I'm still unused to the fame that I gained, but I do enjoy it." After getting off to a good start, he talked to a reporter. "Unfortunately, I'm also worried that my hope in the ability of songs to influence people's lives is weaker as I progress." He tried to get closer to fans by staging more concerts than ever before. He commemorated his own debut in July 1993 by staging a month-long concert. He also released a remake album of Korean folk rock, sparking fads of remake among Korean singers.

His musical talent was sparked when his fourth studio album was released in 1994. This album was not only about his career but also in the history of Korean popular music. He performed at concerts, marking a thousand concerts in August 1995. He did a concert tour around the country last year, and later performed concerts at University of Pennsylvania and Merkin Concert Hall in Manhattan. He preferred small concert halls to be in closer proximity with audiences, beginning a trend of concert in small theaters around Daehangno, Seoul's Korean equivalent of Broadway.
