Personal life
Natasha Sutherland, a retired actress who appeared on the set of Egoli: Place of Gold in 1998, was married by Hofmeyr. They had two sons. Hofmeyr also has two sons and two daughters by other women. Since rumors of numerous affairs dominated Hofmeyr's time in the spotlight in 2008, the pair was divorced.
Hofmeyr was accused of assaulting Esmaré Weideman, editor of Huisgenoot, a popular Afrikaans newspaper, by pouring a cup of cold tea over her in the Miss South Africa finals in December 2008. He is said to have blaming her and two other journalists for Sutherland's departure. Weideman's charges of attacking were later dismissed.
Hofmeyr was jailed in Bronkhorspruit on 19 December 2013 for traveling at 169 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone, and was released on R500 bail. He was then fined R10,000 in the Bronkhorspruit Magistrate's Court on January 23, 2014.
