Early life and education
Kim Seong-il, the grandson of Kim Seong-il, who served as a young activist in Manchuria during the Japanese colonial period. His grandfather was a student of Kim Gu, a Manchurian nation campaigner.
Kim Bo-seok formed LEO (), a five-member Eurodance boyband formed in 2001, aiming to cash in on the popularity of the then-popular boyband g.o.d's demise after eight months.
Kim majored in German at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies after failing the exam to enter the theater department. Kim is also fluent in English and received his secondary teaching certificate in German and English in 2006. From Kyung Hee University's Graduate School of Journalism and Communication, he holds a master's degree in Cultural Contents Planning.
Kim's birth name was confirmed by the head of his organization, and he and veteran actor Jung Bo-seok and Kim Bo-seong were given the stage name "Kim Ji-seok."
Personal life
On May 24, 2010, Kim enlisted for his obligatory military service at the Nonsan training center in South Chungcheong Province for five weeks of basic training. He was discharged in March 2012 after serving active service with the Ministry of National Defense in Yongsan-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
Career
Kim began his acting career by appearing in Kim Hyung-joong's "She's Laughing" (2004) film clip, followed by several minor roles. Despite the fact that his daily drama Likeable or Not received high ratings in 2007–2008, Kim did not become a household name. Kim appeared in Take Off, the country's second-highest grossing Korean film in 2009. His fame in period drama The Slave Hunters, the lover of a transgender man in comedy Lady Daddy's wife, and a rival ex-boyfriend in Personal Taste only heightened his appeal even more.
Kim's first post-army acting role was Two Moons (also known as The Sleepless). In June, this was followed by television romantic comedies I Need Romance 2012 (Japan) and Cheongdam-dong Alice in December. Kim then appeared in Wonderful Mama (2013), Angel Eyes (2014), Unkind Ladies (2015), and Cheer Up. He also appeared on "Heart of the Cast": Hot Brain: Troubled Men.
Kim appeared in Another Oh Hae-young (2016), gaining acclaim from viewers for his comedic acting. This was followed by a lauded historical drama The Rebel, which gained him acclaim for his outstanding portrayal of King Lee Yong. Kim was then cast as the lead male role in the romantic comedy comedy Children of the 20th Century (2017) alongside Han Yeeul, followed by another romantic comedy drama with Top Star U-back as the titular character.
