Kevin Saunderson Life

Kevin Maurice Saunderson (born September 5, 1964) is an American electronic music performer.

He moved to Belleville, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, where he attended Belleville High School and befriended two students, Derrick May and Juan Atkins, at the age of nine.

Saunderson, along with Atkins and May (often referred to as "the Belleville Three"), is considered one of the pioneers of techno, specifically Detroit techno.

Early life

Kevin Maurice Saunderson was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 5, 1964. He spent the early years of his life in Brooklyn before he moved to Belleville, Michigan, about 30 miles from Detroit, around age 10. When Saunderson first met Derrick May, the two were 14 years old. After losing a bet and a single day at school, May punched May in the chest, knocking him out cold and giving him a concussion, May had decided not to pay him. The two became best friends after the altercation.

Juan Atkins, a high school classmate of Saunderson and Belleville High School, is a fan of DJ Charles "The Electrifying Mojo" Johnson. Atkins and May were keen on mixing others' music and creating their own, but Saunderson set their first priorities, studying telecommunications and playing American football at Eastern Michigan University. Atkins first started recording with Cybotron in 1981, but May wasn't until 1987 that it was followed and made a record. Saunderson, who was initially focusing on becoming a DJ, was inspired to write his own music after seeing the six-month process as Atkins and May completed "Let's Go."

Atkins discussed his technical skills with Saunderson, and those early sessions led to the formation of "Triangle Of Love." "I used to wake up in the middle of the night, go into my studio, which was in the next room, and lay down the plans as they came to me. On his web page autobiography, Saunderson writes about experimentation and being a college student. Under the pseudonym Kreem on Atkins' name, Metroplex, "Triangle of Love" was released.

According to Saunderson, Inner City is a Saunderson group that came about "by accident." In 1987, he recorded a backing track in his home studio, but he wanted lyrics and a female vocalist. Terry 'Housemaster' Baldwin, a Chicago house builder, suggested Paris Grey to his friend, Terry 'Housemaster' Baldwin. "Paris consented, soared into Detroit, performed with songs, and 'Big Fun' was born." Saunderson discarded the tape until, months later, UK dance entrepreneur Neil Rushton came to Detroit in search of music for a compilation album titled Techno - The New Dance Sound Of Detroit by Virgin Records. On the album, Rushton included "Big Fun." It was immediately released as a single and became a worldwide success, but Inner City's sequel, "Good Life," took it outsold it. Paradise, a debut album, will be released soon. Inner City achieved nine Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and two Top 20 albums in total, with combined sales of more than six million.

Saunderson's E-Dancer project produces music that is "more underground." The first E-Dancer album, 'Heavenly,' was released in 1998 to critical acclaim; Spin named it "one of the ten best albums you've never heard."
