Kevin Robert McNally (born 27 April 1956) is an English actor who has worked in theatre and radio as well as in film and television.
In the Pirates of the Caribbean film film series, he is best known for his portrayal of Joshamee Gibbs.
Early life
McNally, a boy from Birmingham, spent his youth in Birmingham, attending Redhill Junior School (now Mapledene Primary School) on Mapledene Road in Sheldon. On Gressel Lane in Tile Cross, he went to Central Grammar School for Boys.
Personal life
He was in a relationship with actress Stevie Harris, and the two children were together. McNally met actress Phyllis Logan in 1994, and the pair married in 2011. David's son David was born in 1996. The family lives in Chiswick.
Career
McNally's first professional acting work, which was at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre at the age of 16, was at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. He was granted a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1973, where he received the Best Actor Bancroft Gold Medal in 1975.
He appeared in BBC's I, Claudius, and, in 1977, he appeared in the second series of Poldark's Poldark as Drake Carne, his younger brother of Demelza Poldark. He wrote nine episodes of Minder from 1991 to 1994, with writing partner Bernard Dempsey. He also wrote two episodes of Boon and two episodes of Lock, Stock with Dempsey.
In the Pirates of the Caribbean films, McNally played Joshamee Gibbs. He is one of only three actors to appear in all five films, and he reprised his role in Kingdom Hearts III, making him the only actor from the film series to reprise a role in Kingdom Hearts.
McNally, along with fellow British actors Ian McNeice and Kenneth Branagh, appeared in two Second World War films Valkyrie and Conspiracy, which portray the life of high-ranking officials in Nazi Germany.
