Club career

Havertz joined amateur club Alemannia Mariadorf, where his grandfather, Richard, was chairman of the club, had his first participation in football at the age of four. He was signed by 2nd. in 2009, he was signed by 2. Alemannia Aachen in the Bundesliga spent only a year in the club's academy before joining Bayer Leverkusen at the age of 11. He had to tackle growth spurts and the challenges that followed, and after scoring 18 goals for the club's U-17 squad, he was awarded the silver U-17 Fritz Walter Medal before joining Leverkusen's senior team the following year.

Havertz made his Bayer Leverkusen debut on October 15, 2016, serving as a second-half substitute for Charles Aránguiz in a 2–1 Bundesliga loss to Werder Bremen. He was the club's youngest-ever Bundesliga debutant at the age of 17 years and 126 days, but Florian Wirtz's record was broken (by 111 days) by 2020. He assisted teammate Karim Bellarabi in scoring his 50,000th Bundesliga goal on February 17, 2017. He was handed his first Champions League start in the first leg of a round of 16 losses to Atlético Madrid four days after his suspension of teammate Hakan alhanolu. He was disqualified from the return leg of the game in March, but not before the match met with the examinations period at his college. In a 3–3 draw with VfL Wolfsburg, he scored his first goal for the club on April 2nd, netting a late equalizer. Havertz broke another club record to become Leverkusen's youngest-ever goalscorer in the Bundesliga at the age of 17. He made 28 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals, including a brace against Hertha BSC on the final day of the season, as Leverkusen finished the season in 12th place.

Havertz became the youngest player in the Bundesliga to play at 18 years and 307 days old on April 14, 2018, breaking the record set by Timo Werner. Leverkusen finished his second full season with 30 league appearances and three goals to his name.

Despite Leverkusen's initial struggles in the league, Havertz continued to impress, scoring six goals along the way. Havertz scored his first two goals in European competitions in a 3–2 victory over Ludogorets Razgrad in the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League. In a 3–0 league victory over Wolfsburg, aged 19 years, seven months, and 16 days, he became Leverkusen's youngest-ever penalty scorer when he scored from the spot. In a 2–0 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf, he became the second youngest player to reach 75 Bundesliga appearances, behind Julian Draxler. He scored on his 100th appearance for Leverkusen on Sunday to lead the team to a 1–0 league victory over Stuttgart. He made the goal his 13th game with the team, and he was the youngest player since Stuttgart's own Horst Köppel was able to score 13 goals in a single league season. During a 6–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on May 5th, he scored his 15th goal of the season; the first time ever saw seven goals scored in the first half of a Bundesliga match. he scored his 17th goal against Hertha BSC on the final day of the season. He was named runner-up to Marco Reus for the German Footballer of the Year award at the end of the season, losing by just 37 votes.

Havertz scored in Leverkusen's 3–2 victory over Paderborn, the second-youngest player of all time behind Köppel's 25 Bundesliga goals. He started his team's 2–0 loss to Köln in December, breaking another of Werner's records to become the youngest-ever player to reach 100 Bundesliga appearances. Havertz scored in both matches against Porto in the round of 32, then scored a goal against Inter Milan in the quarter-finals, and in the 2019-20-20 UEFA Europa League, Havertz scored in both games against Inter Milan.

Havertz agreed to a five-year deal with Chelsea in the Premier League on September 4, 2020. Chelsea's second-most expensive signing after Kepa Arrizabalaga, was reported to be worth an initial £62 million, which may rise to £71 million with add-ons, making him Chelsea's second-most expensive signing after Kepa Arrizabalaga. Havertz made his debut for Germany's under-19 squad after a 15-month absence, debuting in the 0–0 friendly draw against Switzerland on August 31, 2017. Havertz scored four goals in a 5–1 victory over Belarus in the first round of European Under-19 Championship qualifying, on October 4, 2017, his third appearance for the under-19 team. He was later named captain of the Under-19 team.

For the first time by head coach Joachim Löw, Havertz was called up to Germany's senior team on August 29. He was selected for Germany's UEFA Nations League match against France and a friendly against Peru. Havertz made his international debut on September 9, 2018, when Timo Werner's 88th minute against Peru became a substitute, resulting in the match ending as a 2–1 home win for Germany. He made his debut in 1999 and became the first national team recruiter. He was selected to the German squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 on May 2021. In a 4–2 win over Portugal in the UEFA Euro 2020, he scored Germany's third goal in the 51st minute in the UEFA Euro 2021.
