Diogo Dalot Career

Club career

Dalot, a born in Braga, joined Porto's youth service in 2008 at the age of nine. He made his senior debut with the B team on January 28, 2017, playing the full 90 minutes against Leixes in the LigaPro championship for the second time.

Dalot first appeared with the first team in a competitive game on October 13, 2017, winning 6–0 over Lusitano de Évora for the season's Taça de Portugal. He first appeared in the Primeira Liga on February 18, 2018 as a 75th-minute replacement in a 5–0 home routing of Rio Ave.

Dalot signed for Premier League club Manchester United on June 6th, 2018 on a five-year contract for a fee of £19 million. Coach José Mourinho said he was one of the best right-backs around when he arrived in Manchester. He made his debut in September 2018 in an away UEFA Champions League group stage match against Swiss side Young Boys, but the team was unable to have continuity in the team due to injuries sustained in the previous season.

In a 2–2 away draw against Southampton on December 1st, he made his Premier League debut on December 1st. Despite Mourinho's dismissal and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appointment as the new boss, Dalot remained a popular pick: he made 23 appearances in the season. He had a memorable game in Paris in the Champions League quarter-finals 2nd leg against Paris Saint-Germain, where Manchester United won after a penalty shot by Dalot. He scored his second goal in a 6–0 FA Cup victory over Tranmere Rovers, his first goal for United.

Dalot struggled with various ailments during his first seasons with the club, and after the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, his results were severely limited under new coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dalot was loaned to Milan, Italy, for the 2020-21 season, following sporadic usage by Manchester United. On October 22nd, he made his Milan debut and defeated Celtic 3–1 in a UEFA Europa League group stage match, beginning in a 3–1 victory over Celtic. In a 3–0 home group stage victory over Sparta Prague seven days later, Dalot scored his first goal for Milan and assisted compatriot Rafael Leo. In the 71st minute of a 2–1 away win over Udinese, he made his Serie A debut on November 1st. In a 2–2 away draw against Genoa, he got his first appearance in the league. Dalot scored his first Serie A goa in a 2–0 away at Hellas Verona on March 7th 2021.

Dalot's versatility enabled him to play either as a right back or left back during the season. After an eight-year absence, Stefano Pioli's team secured his second spot in the 2020-2021 Serie A and qualification for the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League, making him an integral part of the Stefano Pioli family team. During his time as a Rossonero, he was able to play regularly, scoring two goals and giving three assists. He was able to develop defensively in Italy, although losing his ability to strike, as Dalot himself said.

Manchester United were keen on signing another right-back during the summer of 2021. Milan, who were impressed by Dalot's loan move to the club, began discussions with Manchester United to sign him on a permanent basis. Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was enthrallened with his pre-season debuts after returning to Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund was also interested in signing him on a loan contract, but the manager decided to remain at United to face Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a starting position. Dalot was off to a 1–0 home loss to West Ham United in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 22nd. Since being a rookie and three substitute appearances, he has had few opportunities. After Wan-Bissaka was suspended for two games, he played against Villarreal in a Champions League group stage match.

Dalot was given his first appearance in the league under interim manager Michael Carrick on Sunday, putting on an excellent show and scoring the second goal in a 3–2 victory over United's Arsenal at Old Trafford. Following his solid results against Crystal Palace and Norwich City, Dalot established himself as a starter for the club following the appointment of interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

International career

Dalot helped Portugal win the 2016 European Under-17 Championship, scoring twice in five games in Azerbaijan, twice against Spain, twice in the final. He helped the under-19 team reach the quarter-finals of the same tournament last year.

Dalot qualified in the 2017 European Under-19 Championship, helping finish runner-up after losing in the final to England. He was named in the "Team of the Tournament" for his performances throughout the season. Dalot competed for Portugal at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, beginning in all of the matches in the hopes of an eventual quarter-final exit.

He earned his first cap for the Portugal under 21s on November 10, 2017, after a 1–1 draw against Romania in the 2019 European Championship qualifiers. Dalot participated in the 2021 European Under-21 Championship, which began in March 2021. Portugal finished runners-up after losing in the final 1–0 to Germany on June 2021.

Dalot was named in Portugal's squad for UEFA Euro 2020 on June 1321 as a replacement for Jo Cancelo, who died after receiving results from testing positive for COVID-19. In the final 11 minutes, he made his debut ten days later in the final group game, a 2–2 draw with France in Budapest, in which he substituted Nélson Semedo for the final 11 minutes. In a 1–0 loss to Belgium in the round 16, Dalot made his first appearance with the senior national team on Friday, losing 1–0.

He was summoned by Portugal in October 2021 and on October 9, he had two assists, the first being converted by Cristiano Ronaldo in a 3–0 home win over Qatar.

In a 4–0 away victory over the Czech Republic in the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League, Dalot scored his first two international goals in a 4–0 victory over the Czech Republic on September 24.

Diogo Dalot SNUBS team-mate Andre Onana as he names the goalkeeper who he feels will become the 'best in the world'... after they were previously linked with a move to Man United

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 26, 2024
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has snubbed his club team-mate Andre Onana as he tipped who will become the best goalkeeper in the world. Onana has had a mixed season at Old Trafford since he was chosen by Erik ten Hag to replace David de Gea at Old Trafford last summer. The Cameroonian shot-stopper had a shaky start to the season for the Red Devils, though he has recovered some form after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign where he conceded three goals in his only outing.

Man United fans think Jose Mourinho's prediction about one player has come true six years after former manager made it

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 18, 2024
Jose Mourinho, the former manager of Man United, has been proven correct about one player, according to one of his followers. Mourinho coached the Red Devils for two years between 2016 and 2018, and he tipped one of his signings for major awards. Mourinho, who made his debut against Young Boys, said full-back Diogo Dalot could play for United for the next ten years.

Diogo Dalot insists 'the standard' at Manchester United should be winning the Premier League title 'NOW' and claims he can understand why fans are frustrated over the club's inconsistency

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 24, 2024
Diogo Dalot says 'the model' at Manchester United should be challenging for the Premier League, and that he understands why the fans are outraged over the team's inconsistency. By winning the Carabao Cup last season, the Red Devils claimed their first major trophy in six years, but Dalton says the team must be more innovative going forward. After an 11-year dry spell on the Portuguese national level, United must concentrate on winning the Premier League, the Portuguese believer insists that is what the fans want from them.
