Career
Seth Riggs, his vocal coach, introduced the 16-year-old Groban to Grammy-winning producer and arranger David Foster and future boss Brian Avnet in late 1997. Groban had no recording experience and was preparing for his Carnegie Mellon studies at the time. Groban appeared on stage for a string of high-profile performances, including the 1999 Grammy Awards, where—as a stand-in for Andrea Bocelli—he rehearsed Foster's "The Prayer" with Céline Dion, with Céline Dion as a stand-in for Andrea Bocelli. Groban wrote "most of the songs on the album are about "real situations" that have existed and failed," he told The New York Times. "And other songs are about the quest, and it isn't working out." Groban recorded 11 of the album's 13 songs. On September 8, the album's first single, "Hidden Away," was released for free download via Facebook. "It's completely new for me" to be in a room with a piano in one take with some of Johnny Cash's performers. Josh was added to the team. "I believe the elation is on the record." On October 12, "Você Existe Em Mim," the upcoming album's second single, was released on iTunes. Carlinhos Brown, a Brazilian artist, wrote this song in Portuguese and was written by him.
