Joseph Abboud, born May 5, 1950, is an American menswear fashion designer and author.

Early life and education

Joseph Abboud was born in Boston, Massachusetts. The Abbouds, a working-class Lebanese Maronite Catholic family, began out in Boston's South End and then relocated to Roslindale. Joseph Abboud's father worked in a candy factory, and his mother, Lila, was a seamstress. Nancy Ash, he had only one sister, and Lila died of breast cancer.

Abboud graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in 1972 and then enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris.

Personal life

Lynn Weinstein was born in 1976. They have two children and live in Bedford, New York. He appeared on Don Imus' radio show and was a regular caller to the New York City radio station WFAN to address his beloved Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees' rival. He was the first fashion designer to knock out the opening pitch at Fenway Park in Boston for a Red Sox game in 2002.

Both Abboud's mother and sister died of breast cancer. As a result, Abboud has become a breast cancer activist who created a one-of-kind GMC Sierra vehicle to raise funds for a Concept:Cure charity cause and has attended several other charity events for breast cancer research. From 2001 to 2004, GM released Joseph Abboud Limited Edition Buick Regal GS and LS, as well as a a Joseph Abboud Limited Edition Buick Rendezvous from 2004 and 2005. During a breast cancer fund-raiser, Abboud was named one of five "Men for the Cure" by GQ magazine and GM's Concept:Cure. Concept: The cure for breast cancer charities has raised $2.6 million. Since his mother and sister both died from breast cancer, Abboud says he has a personal interest in curing breast cancer.

He began working in high school first for Thom McAn dyeing women's shoes, followed by the Anderson-Little men's store, where he sold suits. He worked part-time at Louis Boston as a college student. "Louis Boston was a big part of my life," Abboud said. I landed in a world of extremely glamorous style, gorgeous clothes, but not so much of what international fashion was about. If this had never happened, the majority of it may not have happened." At the age of 23, Abboud became a Boston resident. He served as a buyer, merchandiser, and later in charge of promotion and advertising over the course of twelve years.

Abboud joined Ralph Lauren in 1981 and became the associate designer of menswear style. In 1989, he began his own brand. JA Apparel was established in 1988 as a joint venture between Abboud and GFT (Gruppo Financial Tessile) USA.

Abboud began working with fashion designer Peter Speliopoulos in 1991. Abboud was the first designer to win the CFDA Award as Best Menswear Designer two years in a row. Many of Abboud's most popular customers include American trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, author and former television news anchor Tom Brokaw, and former Boston Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra.

In 2000, Abboud sold his trademarks and name to JA Apparel for $65 million. J.W., a private-equity company, acquired the firm. Abboud left JA Apparel in 2005 after Children Associates' total value was $73 million in 2004.

In 2007, Abboud introduced Jaz, a new line. In 2008, Black Brown 1826 was also created for the Lord & Taylor department store, where it was also known as the Black Brown 1826 line. The opening of Abboud's first stores in China in 2008 coincided with the 2008 holidays.

Abboud, the owner of the Hart Schaffner Marx and Hickey Freeman brands, became the chief creative officer of the HMX in 2010. In 2011, HMX made an offer to buy JA Apparel for $90 million. He became the Chief Creative Director of Men's Wearhouse in December 2012. Men's Wearhouse Inc. (now Tailored Brands Inc.), a creative director, acquired the Abboud and JOE trademark in 2013.

Abboud founded e-commerce, opened a Madison Avenue flagship store, and staged full-scale fashion shows after getting back the legal right to his brand in 2013.

WHP Global acquired the Joseph Abboud brand from Tailored Brands in March of 2020. Tailored Brands has entered into a licensing agreement with WHP Global for the continuing rights to sell and rent Joseph Abboud clothing and selected accessories in the United States and Canada.

At the age of 27, model Jeremy Ruehlemann died. The reason for death has yet to be confirmed. Christian Siriano, a fashion stylist who considered Ruehlemann to be his muse, shared a touching note on Instagram on Sunday. The article was a collection of snapshots from Ruehlemann's modeling sessions as well as some of Siriano and Ruehlemann's together. 'I've never posted anything like this, but to lose a friend who was such a beautiful soul is just really difficult,' Siriano wrote. 'This is for Jeremy, the most beautiful man who gave so much love to everyone he met no matter what.' Ruehlemann was one of my muses, and he'll always be one of mine,' he said. He inspired me and I will love him forever.' Ruehlemann appeared in several of Siriano's runway shows, as well as in modeling campaigns for Atelier Cillian and Joseph Abboud.
