Joris Gnagnon (born 13 January 1997) is a French football player who plays for Rennes on loan from Sevilla and is a defender.
Club career
Born in Bondy next to Paris, Gnagnon is a youth protester for Stade Rennais. He made his Ligue 1 debut against Troyes AC on January 16, 2016, when he appeared in the entire second half. In a Derby Breton against Nantes on Jan. 28, 2017, he scored his first Ligue 1 goal, causing the game to be called in the 86th minute.
Gnagnon played for Sevilla FC for five years from July 25 to June 2018. In July 2019, Gnagnon was heavily kicking Liverpool player Yasser Larouci, causing the 18-year-old to leave the field on a stretcher and Gnagnon was given a red card.
Gnagnon returned to Rennes on a one-year loan agreement on August 26th.
Gnagnon was fired by Sevilla for a lack of professionalism on September 22, 2021, citing questions regarding his discipline and physical fitness.
After being released from his Sevilla job, Gnagnon joined French side Saint-Étienne on November 26, 2021. He failed to make a competitive appearance for the club before he left by mutual agreement in May 2022.
International career
On March 25, 2017, Gnagnon made his France under-20 debut. This was the first game for a French youth team.
He later elected to represent the Ivory Coast national team, for whom he is eligible due to his family's Ivorian roots. On May 19, 2017, he was called up to the Ivory Coast national team for the first time.
Despite moving allegiance to the Ivory Coast last year, he never made an appearance for the African nation and said in May 2018 that he had not ruled out playing for the European country at senior level. He was then called up by the France under-21 team for friendlies against Switzerland and Italy in May 2018.
