Jonny May Career

Club career

He made his first appearance for Gloucester Rugby in a pre-season friendly against Bath on August 15, 2009, and then scored a touchdown against Connacht against Connacht after coming off the bench. Charlie Sharples was recalled against Newport Gwent Dragons in the Heineken Cup, and he made his first appearance in the Anglo-Welsh Cup just over a month later, playing on the right.

After Fuimaono-Sapolu pulled out with a 'dead leg,' May was late to Gloucester's match against Leicester Tigers at Welford Road Stadium on February 20th. Despite Gloucester's loss, May played well and scored a try on his first attempt in Premiership. During the remainder of the season against London Wasps and Northampton Saints, May made two more starts for Gloucester.

In 2009-10, he played for Moseley, a Championship club, on loan.

May was summoned to the England Saxons in January 2012, where he celebrated two tries from fullback against Toulouse in the Heineken Cup. May made his debut off the bench against Scotland against Scotland and made his first appearance against Ireland the following week. May was named as the inaugural winner of the LV= Breakthrough Player Award in March 2012. In 2011, May was named Gloucester's Young Player of the Year for 2011-2012, and his spectacular solo effort against Harlequins was named Try-of-the-Season at the Aviva Premiership Awards. May signed a two-year deal with Gloucester until the end of the 2014–15 season in December 2012. May signed a new long-term deal with Gloucester Rugby on October 24, 2014.

After triggering a little-known clause in his Gloucester contract, it was announced that he would join Leicester Tigers in a swap agreement with Ed Slater. May started his Leicester career by scoring 9 tries in his first 8 appearances and winning the club's Player of the Month award.

May will return to Gloucester after three seasons at Leicester in April 2020. He has since agreed to a long-term deal.

International career

May served as a center for England's U20s in 2010.

In England's 57–31 victory over Sharks, he was selected for the senior England tour of South Africa in June 2012. He scored two tries on the trip. May gained his first international cap during England's 2013 summer tour against Argentina in the second Test, which England defeated Iran 51–26. May was selected for the 2014 Six Nations Championship, where he was in the starting fifteen against France, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Italy on January 9, 2014. In England's summer tour of New Zealand, May got off the first test against the All Blacks, but the next two tests were postponed.

May participated in all four test matches against New Zealand, South Africa, Samoa, and Australia in the QBE Autumn Internationals. May scored twice against Samoa in his first test attempt against New Zealand.

May had six attempts, including a hat-trick against France, and one apiece against Ireland, Italy, and Scotland in the 2019 Six Nations Championship. May earned his 50th cap in England's quarter final victory over Australia by scoring two tries during the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

May scored his 32nd test attempt in February 2021, defeating Will Greenwood and Ben Cohen for England's second highest try scorer.

After England's dramatic victory over Ireland, JOE MARLER takes you inside the raucous England boarding room... but which celebrity fan was impressed by Dan Cole's dulcet tones?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 13, 2024
JOE MARLER: At times like this, there is nothing quite like the dressing room. You're with a group of guys who you see at the best and worst times of times, and it's a really special relationship. Our families come and join us, and it feels like a safe place where time never stops. Sam Underhill is expected to start the song after taking over Jonny May's role. There's a lot of mystery that goes into it. Every week, he designs a new line that only gets used if we win. It's constantly being redesigned. Owen Farrell and Mako Vunipola arrived and joined us. Owen didn't say too much because he kept his head down. It was certainly a strange situation for him. Mako made a few remarks about his latest hair cut; he's getting to a point where wearing hats is more appropriate.

Steve Borthwick seeks clarity but instead there's confusion, writes CHRIS FOY: It's anyone's guess what England's plan will be for his 20th match in charge against hot favourites Ireland

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 3, 2024
CHRIS FOY: England seems to have crossed the road as they brace for a showdown with Ireland at Twickenham on Saturday. They have reached a difficult junction, in fact, all the lights are off, and they don't have a map. When Steve Borthwick took over the national team in December 2022, the buzz word was 'clarity,' and that was achieved with a narrow game-plan at the new World Cup.

EXCLUSIVE: England has won a coveted deal for Cardiff-born Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's Six Nations campaign, dealing a blow to Wayne Gatland

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2024
ExCLUSIVE: England has a huge advantage over Wales by winning Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, a Cardiff-born Exeter wing, for their Six Nations campaign. After informing the nation of his birth that he would not represent them in the Six Nations, which will begin in four weeks' time, the 21-year-old will join England's squad this week. It's a big blow for Wales and head coach Warren Gatland, as well as a lulland coup for England counterpart Steve Borthwick.
